It'll work perfectly, that's exactly what the original miniseries did and having them all come back grown up is a unique and effective method of story telling.

This movie was phenomenal. Probably the best theatrically released horror movie I've seen in a few years. It was cool how it didn't hold back on the gore. It was open season on those kids.

Better then attempting to cram a 1,138 page novel int a 1 or 2 hour movie

Splitting it up is the better way to go.
