I think I'm gaining new appreciaton for Date. He was far more overmatched then I remember, and Ippo had him cold at the end. He was taking more damage, and he literally could not move a step forward.
The wily veteran angle was so well played there. Had Ippo dancing like a puppet on a string.

Do you think he still would have won, if Kanogawa didn't throw in the towel?
Since he's been in similar positions against pretty much everyone. Sendou, for example.

Because David Eagle only got to the world by being the antithesis of Ippo.

Went from feeling sorry for Ippo, to excited at some actual character development, to saddened by the realization this was all an elaborate setup to cover him in poo again..
I mean, he tries to turn himself in to the police, and the guy just laughs at him. Then he shaves his head in penance. And now, he learns the punk he took under his wing, and is forced to train again by Kamogawa, is Aoki's little brother.
So we went from drama, to angst, to "haha, jokes on you".
We get it, Mori, you hate your main character.
The only potential good thing here, is Ippo has a (really stupid) reason to hang around the gym again, and that could lead to more Takamura fun.

What if Mori doesn't really hate Ippo? What if this is some bizarre experiment?
Up until the final arcs, they had a lot in common. They both lived to box. They both had no luck with women, for whatever reasons. They both have terrible social skills.
The main difference, is Joe died in the ring, and Ippo didn't. Maybe Ippo is Mori's way of asking, "What if Joe lived?"
The answer, is he becomes a sad, pathetic shell of his former self. A directionless drifter, with no real goal or motivations, and no skills to build a life past boxing.
Joe had the best ending possible, for his character. Ippo just proves as much.

Well, unlike some of the other characters that were violent punks and resort to boxing in order to vent and right the stupidity they did in their past Ippo is doing this as a hobby since the beginning. Sure, he loves boxing but he has never found a reason to need boxing other tan him not being talented at anything else. Hanging around with kids that are in need to reform could help him to figure out that.
Personally, I'd like for complete Dempsey to cheese Ricardo in 20 seconds of round one. Only to lose the final fight of the series to Sendou, after he beats Gonzalez first.

I have a bad feeling this won't end well for Mashiba. (And what's with calling all his match's "execution" lol.)

Aoki calling Kimura and Samamura a black mark for Mashiba.
Kimura, maybe, but Mashiba didn't seem too interested in beating Sawamura. And he did clearly have him beat.

What if Iga beats Mashiba, and goes on to the world. Then he challenges Aoki as a joke "warmup" match, just to demonstrate the difference between the world level.
And Aoki somehow beats him.
Then, the endgame becomes Aoki vs Vorg.
Of course, Aoki won't win, but it's the kind of asspull twist Mori would pull.

Speaking of Mashiba, one of my favorite lines from Takamura happens during his match with Sawamura.
He calls them both punks.
It's a simple throw away line, but says a lot about how much respect Takamura has for boxing the right way, without taking shortcuts.

Who's even the world champion? Vorg is champ of the junior lights, so I don't think we've met him yet.
Speaking of Vorg:
Is he, in the strictest sense, a Gary Stu?
I mean, he has no real weaknesses or character flaws. He has a tragic background. He's better then the protagonist and every other character at pretty much everything, and only lost because he "chose" to (That's if you believe Mori and Kamogawa, over Vorg himself claiming Ippo would have hunter him down and cornered him.)

Mashiba just used his trump against Iga, in the second chapter of the fight.
That pretty much means this won't end well for him. Either he outright loses, or wins but becomes injured doing so.
Something's up with Iga's emotions. It's like he's hypnotized or something.

Yeah, it has been implied before that Iga enters in some kind of trance to perform more aggressively in his matches.
I don't think the fight will be easy for Mashiba contrary to what this first round lets to believe, but technically Mashiba did not throw his best punch yet, he juste deployed a never seen before left uppercut. In his previous fight and his spar with Ippo he threw right uppers which obviously must have a different timing.

And now iga targets the arm, and attempts a Fishhook.
This won't end well. Marron looks like the real deal.

After he brings Iga the world, boxers will start knocking on his door. I'm thinking he lands someone on Takamura's path. Maybe someone new, maybe someone old. Hawk, likely, if the latter. He not only ends his winning streak, but possibly his career. By targeting the eye, of course.
