I agree with Dave. I read all his tweets. They were disgusting and stupid but he clearly wanted shock humour. The worst part about this for me, is that because he said something against a certain political party, they dug up some dirt, and it got him fired.
Disney as a private corporation reserves the right to terminate him but wtf? What if someone says they dislike the Democratic Party Of stands up for Men’s Rights in public? This social media outrage is ridiculous, and the fact that it can be weaponized makes it extremely dangerous. Disney should have kept him, just on principle.
I read the tweets & honestly whether one found them funny or not...they were made for shock value & nothing more IMO.
I mean Disney would've known of Gunn's past in films.
He wrote the script for Tromeo & Juliet that dealt in wanton violence, incest & rape.
In Super, Ellen Paige's character rapes someone for laughs.
Then there was James Gunn's PG Porn. A web series of pornography spoofs.
Disney knew all this was Gunn's previous history & repertoire before hiring him for the GOTG franchise.
It's kinda hypocritical to turn around & fire him for actions done years prior to being hired by Disney.
This is the same Disney that allowed Gunn to run twice with the joke of space pirates kidnapping a little boy with the sole purpose of eating him for laughs...& still show how it left a traumatic effect to Quill's character growing up.
But Disney owns ABC right? So they fired Roseanne. How can they not get rid of this guy?
