Benji Gregory, best known for his acting work as a child star on the 1980s NBC sitcom ALF, was found dead on June 13.

The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the death but has not yet determined a cause. He was found in his car at a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona. His service dog, Hans, was also found dead in the vehicle.

The actor’s sister, Rebecca, said that her brother suffered from depression and bipolar disorder and had a sleep disorder that often kept him awake for days.

Gregory played middle son Brian Tanner on more than 100 episodes of ALF, which aired from 1986-90. It followed the earthly adventures of a furry alien from the planet Melmac who crashes his spaceship into the Tanners’ garage. Nicknamed ALF (for Alien Life Form) and voiced by Paul Fusco.

Born on May 26, 1978, in suburban Los Angeles, Gregory began his TV career at a tender age with mid-’80s guest roles on such as The A-Team, T.J. Hooker, Punky Brewster, The Twilight Zone and Steven Spielberg’s Amazing Stories.

During ALF‘s run, he also voiced a character on Fantastic Max and later voiced Biff Tannen Jr. on the 1991-92 animated comedy series Back to the Future. He also appeared in a 1991 episode of Murphy Brown and had a small role in the Penny Marshall-directed 1986 spy comedy Jumpin’ Jack Flash, starring Whoopi Goldberg. HE also appeared in commercials for the likes of McDonald’s and others.

Dr. Ruth Westheimer, whose grandmotherly approach as a sex therapist made her a pop icon in the 1980s, died Friday in New York City at home at age 96.

Born Karola Ruth Siegel on June 4, 1928, in Wiesenfeld, Germany, she lost her entire family during World War II. Her father, Julius, was taken away by the Nazis in 1938. Six weeks later, she was on a train to Switzerland as part of the ‘”kindertransport,” the organized escape of thousands of Jewish children out of Germany.

She emigrated to Palestine in 1945 after the war, and began going by her middle name, Ruth. Sshe trained to be a sniper for the Israeli Army.

After her service, she moved to Paris to study psychology at Sorbonne University and then, New York City. After two marriages and divorces, she met Manfred Westheimer, a telecommunications engineer and fellow Jewish refugee, in 1961. He became her third husband, and she called their 36-year union her “real marriage.”

She pursued post doctoral research in human sexuality and began working at Planned Parenthood, where she trained family planning counselors.

Public radio station WYNY’s community affairs manager, Betty Elam, had heard Westheimer speak. She proposed a call-in show on sex education. That mushroomed into the live call-in show Sexually Speaking, which lasted ten years and led to a series of tv and radio shows.

In later years, she lectured, taught, and wrote books. Westheimer received an honorary doctorate degree from Trinity College in 2004 and the Medal for Distinguished Service from the Teacher’s College at Columbia University. Additionally, Ask Dr. Ruth, a film about her extraordinary life, premiered in theaters in 2019.

Former NFL wide receiver and return man Jacoby Jones has died, his family confirmed Jacoby "passed away peacefully at his home" in New Orleans. Jones just turned 40 on Thursday.

Jones is most famous for his heroics during the Baltimore Ravens' 2012 Super Bowl run, which included a 108-yard kickoff return touchdown in Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, marking the longest return in Super Bowl history as well as the longest in NFL postseason history. Jones also hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass from Super Bowl MVP quarterback Joe Flacco to put the Ravens up 21-3 in a game they would hold on to win 34-31. His 290 total yards gained that day are the most in a single Super Bowl ever.

Bob Newhart, an Emmy winner and nine-time nominee who helped launch the recorded comedy craze with two smash stand-up albums before starring in the revered TV shows The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, died today at his Los Angeles home. He was 94.

Newhart broke out in 1960 with a pair of No. 1 comedy albums — despite never having done stand-up before. The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart spent 14 weeks atop the Billboard 200 and stayed on that chart for more than two years. The Button-Down Mind Strikes Back! arrived about 10 months later and also hit No. 1. The former won Grammys for Album of the Year, Comedy Album of the Year and Best New Artist and featured a slow-spoken still-cited monologue with Newhart as Abe Lincoln.

Born on September 5, 1929, in suburban Chicago, Newhart’s first move to TV was with the NBC comedy-variety series The Bob Newhart Show, spawned from his first album and featuring his ad-libbed phone call comedy that inspired similar famous bits by Lily Tomlin and Mike Nichols & Elaine May. It lasted just one season in 1961-62, earning a Peabody Award. But he would return to the medium in a huge way a decade later.

The star would return to TV in 1982 with another CBS sitcom, Newhart. This time he played, Dick Loudon, a “how-to” book author who took over a long-closed colonial inn in Vermont. Mary Frann played his wife, but — as with Newhart’s 1970s show — his co-stars often stood out. Among them George (Tom Poston), the inn’s crusty caretaker whose family had been doing that job for two centuries. Other standouts were Larry, Darryl and Darryl, (William Sanderson, Tony Papenfuss and John Voldstad), who could challenge for the title of World’s Most Useless Handymen.
