The thing is, going by political narrative, red state social Darwinism creating such wealth gaps is the expected result.

Well, welfare states would attract the poor. Sanctuary states would also attract illegals (w/c would normally be in the lower economic segment). Could be the nature of the beast or unavoidable for certain states.
Of course, I'm just making completely unresearched assumptions here, so feel free to correct with actual stats.
