The New-Superman of China series alludes to a mental aspect to Kryptonian powers. There's definite evidence in there, especially when they use the Qi techniques to help Supergirl moderate her power levels after she got supercharged.

That's because the powers of the Kryptonians is charged in the "essence" of their cells aka the life force aka the Qi/Ki and that their powers are psionic in nature.

anyway, this concept was established in PRE Crisis continuitty by Denny O'Neil. There, I ching(the entire New Superman storyline is derived from his run in the 1970s) teaches Superman that his power is stores in his chi aura.

Remember what Keith Giffen( the same writer of that Doom PAtrol run RW mentioned) wrote about the nature of Herald of Galactus' powersets in Annihilation..? their ambient cosmic energy absorption is stored in their kilrian auras, which determines how their distinct powersets manifest..:
Yeah, Denny O'Neil established that about Superman in 1970. Maggin also elaborated on this concept as i noted. Rick Veitch made it clear in the Question series as I posted above
Question's information on the Spire came from Lex's science department. He doesn't know what does or doesnt affect superman any more than the average person with access to the internet.

OWAW/Apokolips Now re-established precedent what was shown through implication in te Krypton Man/Red Glass/Blaze-Satannus War/DoS waaay back in 1991/92 -- a fully unleashed Superman is multiple times more powerful than his standard Elite top tier Class 100 levels at the time, a peer to Darkseid in combat(H/P Supes for example, was nowhere near Darkseid in power), can 1-2 shot kill/destroy elite top tiers/trans(above top tier on average) tier Imperiex Probes when fully cutting loose, and is absolutely on a par with Skyfather class beings. We also saw this when he saw him match Kal-L(1/2 of Silver Age Superman) and both of them directly overpower SBP(who has Silver age levels)
