Thor failed. Yes, he tried to kill and strip him. Failed on all accounts. What is this coulda, woulda, shoulda talk. Thanos snapped his fingers and achieved his goal. There was no other reason to stay.
Thanos wasn’t there to kill or beat Thor. He was there to acquire the stone and achieve his universal slaughter. Thor was there to kill him. He failed. Just as Starlord shows up screaming and charging Thanos after he got the time stone from Strange. Thanos left because who cares. Thor did more damage due to the power of the weapon but failed nonetheless.
Kurse squashes Hulk's head like a grape. Then he stalemates Thanos while Abom grapples him ala Drax. Team wins.
