I agree with that. 6 hours might be too long though, that might include to much useless fat.
The theatrical release is 2hr35min, which seems about 30 mins too short for even half of Dune. But a 4-5hr director's cut sounds about right for part 1.

Haha.. Bashar be like, "Make this shit as long as you want!"
What do you think, Bash, should they have just made a TV series? I mean given the pandemic hindsight is 20/20, and it probably would have been the safer option.
i certainly don't want to burden the everyday moviegoer with a 6 hour movie, but tbh even if there's a 12 hour cut to watch, i'll check it out. honest cut, not just someone sweeping up the cutting room floor and making money off of useless scenes

Well, what I mean is: what should they have done to make the series more likely to be successful and continue the stories? And not only that, but to also properly cover the material.
I'm highly concerned that it's going to fail miserably with the pandemic. I just don't see it going well.
And as much as I love to see a big budget, big screen version I think it would likely be more successful as a TV series. Just think a GoT-style show. But Denis V. doesn't do stuff for the small screen, apparently.
@PL there are so many factors which could easily make or break the film, that i don't bother speculating much. i just put a lot of emphasis on avoiding a "white savior" film, because that could end up being widely assumed that it was frank herbert's intention, as opposed to an out of touch director or screenwriter. so basically im concerned that holywood/wb might f*ck around with their carelessness and cause dune itself to be 'cancelled'.

I mean, if the TV series is about the Bene Gesserit then I'm sure they'll cover the appropriate plot points. But if there is even an appearance of a white savior motif, then a moral panic cancel attack can still happen. It doesn't matter what the actual plot or premise is.
it has to be covered in act one with finality and zero ambiguity. it cant be left up to any interpretation by even the middle of the film, whether or not the fremen were manipulated. the fact that there will be a bene geserrit series does make me hopeful as well that the proper decisions were made. i just hope it'll be stated clearly enough

I just want lots of flashy lights and things going boom and someone on screen explaining everything in case I get confused and bored when I'm eating my loud, crunchy, smelly food and being obnoxious and talking constantly and asking what that actor has been in before and checking my phone every 3 minutes with the screen turned up to full brightness.

Not in the UK yet and last I checked there was no plans to launch it. Some stuff has been released on other subscription services though. Sky TV mostly. Raised by Wolves for example.

Hm.. well hopefully it will be available legally abroad and people don't pirate it too much.
I watched some other Denis Villeneuve movies recently, some of his early indie French films. And they were freakin great...
Polytechnique (2009) - Apparently a true story about a psychopathic misogynistic killing rampage. Admittedly it's an inherently compelling story, but he still tells it superbly.
Maelstrom (2000) - Any movie that starts out with a butchered fish narrator and an abortion is definitely going to be good. I'm not making that up, haha. But it seriously is great.
I still have a few other Denis V. films I am planning to watch. It's so refreshing finding some great indie films to watch. I've become so tired of stock Hollywood shit, especially with F&F9 and Disney Cruise with Dwayne The Rock Johnson. They epitomize Hollywood shit.
