Okay. Saw it. Pretty good.

Not "zomg f*cking awesome" good, but still good.

A lot like Blade Runner 2049. Which is not surprising, considering both were done by Denis Villeneuve.

Also, Jason Momoa should never be clean-shaven. Ever. It's an abomination that should be killed with fire.

I'd love to see Villeneuve tackle Alien, though. He's like Ridley Scott but not as senile.

Speaking of which, how does this compare to the 1984 version and 2000 tv show?

Could anyone tell me?

Also, since KMC is the darkest corner of the Internet, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has played Behind the Dune flash-based cartoon porn game laughing out loud

I wonder if it's still getting new updates. Need to check shifty

I think if you watched Lynch's 1984 Dune (as I'm in the middle of now) you'd have a bit more appreciation for Villeneuve's take (so far).

Probably, yes.

I see the potential. And I know the story is far from over.

I wish Villeneuve's style wasn't so easy to recognize, though.

I need to say I kinda hoped for Baron Harkonnen NOT getting watered down.

He is supposed to be one of the most vile villains in fiction, making Pr and Galan soil their pants.

It's far more polished than the other two, and doesn't get nearly as weird as Lynch's version. For me, that means it lacks a little something, but i don't think it hurts the movie that much. It's just a bit... sterile? I suppose?

Not really. Villeneuve is nothing if not talented. Some people won't like some of the changes he's made, and as someone who has long lamented certain changes in comic adaptations, I can see why. As a film, though, it is incredibly well put together.

"Sterile" is a good word to describe Denis Villeneuve's work, yes.

As good as Blade Runner was, I had that weird feeling of... insufficiency. Despite the film length.

Same with Dune, but at least here we know that we're gonna get the sequel in two years.

I feel like sterile works quite well for him, though. For Arrival, for example, I feel like it was the perfect tone.

I am glad it's getting a sequel though. Hollywood desperately needs more movies like this.

And I'd like him to do Alien too. I feel like he could knock it out of the park.

See, I actually think he was beefed up...

Sometimes less is more. More menacing. And I think there will be a lot more of him and his kin in Part 2.

Do you not like fathers being emotionally supportive of their sons?

Yeah, that was part of the lack of "weirdness" I spoke about. I haven't read enough of the books to know how accurate he is though, so it's personal preference to me.

Been awhile since I read the book, but I don't remember it that way.

They live in a harsh environment, that's more conducive to "Klingon kinship" then Betazoid touchy-feely kinship.

Plus the stakes being as high as they are, I can't imagine him not answering the call being tolerated at all, much less with a "do as you will" permissiveness. I mean, we're talking about the future of an entire people here, refusing that would be the height of selfishness.
