I just wonder if they wouldn't shoot the ED-209's ahead of them, whittling down their own numbers.

There were shielded roller battle droids in Star Wars, which were the ones that I immediately thought of. One could probably take all of the ED209's that were shown up until the end.

If we're talking about about the useless tall ones with the blasters, ED209 could probably take out an 10-12 with one rocket assault.
Yeah, the useless ones. And an appropriate number of slightly better commander classes.
