I think it matters what browser you use. What are you using?

I use Google Chrome and haven't had a problem with the search function since.

chrome ruined my computer and got me viruses so i haven't used it since 2014.

Are you really this dumb or is somebody paying you for this?

Chrome works fine, always has been. Its only downside is that it consumes a whole shitload of RAM memory.

Anti-malware, more like.

"Antivirus" is kind of an obsolete term nowadays.

Anyway, the most important thing is actually getting a good adblocker plug-in --- it blocks a shitload of malicious sites and pop-ups, even though it does slow down the browser a little bit.

I use Adblock Plus for that stuff, No slow downs for me.

Yeah, suit yourself. Semantics.

I use a combo of MBAM, Anti-Rootkit Beta, Adwcleaner and Junkware Removal Tool. Grew tired of Avast and other defenses.

I use ABP, too. Probably the best choice atm, at least for Chrome.

There is a barely noticeable slowdown --- you probably just can't tell on newer machines.

Not that it matters, as it does an incredibly good job to make up for it.
