30% difference per contract. I don't get that stipulation, everyone knows what it's "supposed" to be, why force them to add differences and ruin the immersion of fans?

Has the 30% thing actually been proven? I'm genuinely asking.
As far as Picard goes, what could have been one of the most poignant scenes in Trek, one that should have made even me cry like a little *****, made me feel nothing. That's how badly they messed it up imo.
Which is still technically alternate reality, in the sense its following along the Abramsverse Trek.
Even the universe Spock came from is an alternate version of the classic series.
There's a lot of material out there showcasing why this is, but it has to do with rights issues.

Yup, it was obvious it wasn't the end. I'm torn because I feel like him [SPOILER - highlight to read]: truly dying would have been better, but then...the show is over lol.

The point is, Abramsverse doesn't exist in the "original" series.
This is like JLA vs Avengers, or any comic book crossover. Technically, none of the events happened the way we read them, because rights issues, and may as well be self contained universes.
I mean, yeah, you can say TNG Picard died, but as far as I'm concerned the original TNG Picard is still enjoying life on his wine orchard.

As for Data [SPOILER - highlight to read]: they could have pulled some techno babble and put HIM into the new android. lame.

No, i just mean all pf modern Trek is a "What If" alternate reality. Including Spock and the "Prime Universe" he came from.
Or that's how I hear it.

I liked it but I feel like it's not the kind of Trek I really enjoy the most. It's darker than most Trek. Not that being darker is necessarily bad...Deep Space Nine was also darker and more violent. However, DS9 benefited from a time when Trek shows were getting 24-26 episodes per season. So you could have a balance. You could have the dark eps of DS9 and then you also have eps where the plot is they play a vulcan team in baseball or some of them are put in a shuttle and shrunk down...or where they all go to a holodeck vegas and fight mobsters.
Shows like Discovery and Picard lack that balance. Unfortunately, I doubt we will ever see a Trek show with such balance ever again. Picard comes off like a single episode that is 10 hours long. It also feels made more for the people who loved the Nu Trek movies than those who were fans of TNG.
I really like the show in terms of science fiction television. But as for a Trek tv series...ehhh
