But a sharp downturn in the trucking industry and a slew of tax changes have hampered their ability to make a living. And many connect those two trends to Trump's economic policies. -snip
"[Trump] is absolutely a moron. His idiotic ideas will tank the economy even further." -Morris Collman, lifelong conservative and trucker of 35+ years
The issue is availability (Commercial Truck Drivers but it isn't as simple as number of bodies available vs. number of routes - it's a far more complicated equation than that but you could dumb it up to just that) is up year over year and that is driving down (no pun intended, sorry) freight costs (lower margins per route).
And a newer article shows that Trucking volume hit all-time highs in October of this year:
Also, the particular freight sector you are in will determine how you are "faring" (again, no pun intended). Some sectors are going through explosive growths. Some, such as the West Coast due to state regulations, such as California choking the freight industry with their blackout policy, are to blame for both the lower number of routes and the hit to the job market.
Summary: cherry-picked opinions are being used to dishonestly represent opinions on Trump because this is just more Democratic, anti-Trump rhetoric. Reality is, freight is at record highs, California is partially to blame for forcing trade-routes to go to the East Coast due to their stupid blackout policy, and their are too may Commercial Drivers which is keeping down freight-to-route costs.
