It's not accurate to say the Trump admin mimicked Chinas response. China silenced doctors. Say what u want, but Dr. Fauci has not been in lockstep with Trump. He has agreed with him at times and also contradicted him. Trump hasn't silenced him.

You keep bringing your point up as if it would have magically done anything when the rest of the world is impacted. Not only are you naively American-Centric, you're such a blind partisan hack that even your talking points are easily dismissed with a few simple questions.

Edit - Let's pretend COVID-19 is every bit as deadly as the seasonal flu. Do you understand that the WHO already said the seasonal Flu is hopeless to stop because of how quickly it spreads? So what do you expect the CDC or yet another government entity to have magically done by the time it got to American soil?
we could have sooner implemented the measures that we only recently did.

It could have helped slow the spread, allowed us to gather and manufacture more of the necessary supplies, set up facilities in preparation for the inevitable, helped ease the burden of hospitals getting over taxed all at once to the neglect of patients with other ailments.

Basically for all the reasons that being prepared for something is better than beinf neglectful and unprepared.

It would also help with the national panic and the medias ability to manipulate the publics fears.

One of the best ways to avoid panic in a a fearful/stressful situation is to be prepared for whats to come.

None of those actions require the CDC or a "strike force." And information was not needed to do any of those things that was not already available (we already had all the info we needed).

The problems you're pointing out are not problems a task force or the CDC would address. That's still on the world leaders to solve and the medical professionals to solve.

In fact, the private sector is so inundated with professionals in this area that they likely have far better data than the CDC. The CDC is collecting data from those individuals and organizations.

To me, this whole "blame Trump for defunding the CDC" is a red herring. You could completely eliminate the CDC and we'd still have this same information.

Edit - Thanks for actually taking the time to discuss the topic. thumb up

Shits about to get real bad in the UK and US.

As for blaming China or Trump, make no mistake, Western nations have handled this terribly. More deaths in Italy than in China ffs.

I have doubts the Chinese government intentionally tried to create this nasty virus. I think that they are so overpopulated that it's inevitable gross viruses originate there. Not everything is conspiracy. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. Intentional or not, there should be penalties.

Boys there are alot of facts we've seem to have overlooked in Italy'. People are dying yes but Covid-19 is a contagious virus and Italy is a country where the retired go. The mortality rate is really high due to other conditions they already have

they might not be required but they certainly help and should have had the potential to make a bigger impact.

The cdc did have the info, they just didnt have the funds necessary to implement what was necessary, and the conflicting info coming from our govt kind of cut their nuts off as far as getting the public and private sectors into action.

They seem like the exact problems the cdc would address

From their website

https://www.cdc.gov/about/organization/mission.htm

"confronting global disease threats through advanced computing and lab analysis of huge amounts of data to quickly find solutions."

"tracking disease and finding out what is making people sick and the most effective ways to prevent it."

"building on our significant contribution to have strong, well-resourced public health leaders and capabilities at national, state and local levels to protect Americans from health threats."

This isnt some revisionist history. This is what was being said would happen when the cuts were being proposed.

"Programs administered by these agencies form the backbone of public health,” said Georges C. Benjamin, MD, executive director of APHA. “Public health agencies have already been operating on shoestring budgets for years, and more cuts will only weaken our nation’s ability to respond to existing and emerging threats to our health.”

https://apha.org/news-and-media/new...esidents-budget

"The cuts started in 2018, as the White House focused on eliminating funding to Obama-era disease security programs. In March of that year, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, whose job it was to lead the U.S. response in the event of a pandemic, abruptly left the administration and his global health security team was disbanded.

That same year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) was forced to slash its efforts to prevent global disease outbreak by 80% as its funding for the program began to run out. The agency, at the time, opted to focus on 10 priority countries and scale back in others, including China."

And prevented the panicked hoarding that has been going on at every store for weeks now.

Well Starbucks is reopening one Wuhan, so they seem to have some faith in Chinas numbers, and China allowing them to reopen says something as well.

Regardless deaths in Italy even being at all comparable to deaths in China says a lot.

Italy's numbers are kind of distorted though, because of how they are assigning deaths relative to other countries, along with the age of the population. Anyone who dies while infected, whether the infection is the actual cause, is being marked as a Coronavirus death.

An Arizona congresswoman appeared on the FOX News Business channel yesterday and suggested that China should forgive the U.S.'s debt to them as punishment for lying to the world.

Yeah, I'm sure China will be totally fine w/doing that. roll eyes (sarcastic)
