So did anything more get shown of this from the EA stream, like gameplay and stuff?

Yeah.

Looks decent. Although, it's not my type of game so it'll be a pass for me.

Eh... Yeah, seems pretty average, tho if it's really only $40 as rumored, then I guess it's not that bad a deal. Still, feels like a game I'll save getting on a rainy day if nothing else.

Rogue Squadron was good.

Rogue Leader was just tedious. Just about everything was timed, or an escort mission, and combat was impossible.

This video reminds me more of Rogue Leader.

I was of the minority who preferred Rebel Strike (the 3rd one) over Rogue Leader, partially for that reason of the 2nd one having too many similarly structured missions, but for a Gamecube launch title, wasn't bad.

Not sure yet how I would compare this new one to any of them though.

I don't think this is comparable to those games. Different developers working with different publishers.

It's a ship based MP game. It could be fun and something a bit different.

Reportedly this will have no microtransactions so that's a plus.

Do like too the level of customization, even customizing the cockpit you're gonna be looking through. Squadrons is first person only. Wasn't comfortable using that for the dog fights in Battlefront 2 as I felt 3rd person > 1st person but if everyone's stuck with the same camera view, fair game.

The more information that comes out about this game the better it sounds. Something that's becoming increasingly more obvious is that this game is not and arcady dog fighting game like Ace combat or battlefield. The amount of talent customization and physics base maneuvers put it more in line with actual sims like the old X-Wing/TIE fighter games or free space. Look at the devs rambling about combat maneuvers you can pull off in the game.

quote:

"We’ve got a drift maneuver implemented in the game. This is just an example — but if you put your power to engines: First, putting your power to engines makes your ship faster, and it makes it turn better. In addition, where you sit on the throttle also determines your turn speed. So that combination of things is a way to be better at dogfighting in and of itself.

"Another reason to max power to engines — not just put a few pips in it, but max it — is that when it’s maxed it builds like a boost charge, and that is a finite amount of crazy superspeed. And you can’t turn very well when you’re doing that. You can a little, but it’s really meant for forward blasting. Every dogfighting game has the problem of the death loop. You get stuck in the loop. They’re chasing you, you’re chasing them, and you can never escape. So part of why we have this boost is to resolve that problem — in addition to getting my throttle dead center, and having power to engines helps me turn."
>"On top of that, if you boost you can then cut off the boost kind of mid-stream. That shuts off your engines completely, so you have a brief moment of drift where you can whip around in a 180 and shoot at them. Or do whatever you want! Change course and hit boost again, if you have more juice left. So there’s stuff like that we’ve tried to do to take it beyond just the core World War II feeling, but to give it something a little special on top."

I believe you also change your shields on the fly..which has always been a Star Wars thing in the books (and I think they even mention it in movies)

Yeah; even at the EAPlay yoke the guy talked about how he grew up playing the 90s games and wanted something more like that.

Fingers crossed they deliver.

There is gameplay videos on Youtube. Take the MP stuff and just put in single player. That's probably what the campaign is going to be.

Surprised this is well reviewed as it is. The number of peripherals in which you can play it helps too.

Amazing what happens when EA aren't being a bunch of dicks trying to put in microtransactions & loot boxes.

Yeah...it's a solid game. For the price, it's worth the money. SP campaign is more than what I thought it would be.....it's lengthy, story is not bad and while it's 100% in space (no land based missions)...it doesn't feel tacked on.

Haven't gotten in the MP yet though but it's nice it offers a pretty robust training tool and 1 vs AI fleet battles.

There's a lot of space games out there though. Wherher its worth the money is relative. Some might consider ANY decent Star Wars game worth a premium.

The fact is, there's a lot of space games out there that cost a fraction of what this does. For me, it being worth it depends on if it offers anything I couldn't get from one of them.

You said space games cost a fraction of what this game costs, which is $40 US.

One of the big ones is Elite Dangrous...a $40 game. EVE Online is a free to play MMO.....Star Citizen hasn't been released...most likely a full price game once it does.

What other space games are there? That cost a fraction of $40. That would be around $10 bucks right?....what game is that? Maybe something that is 10 years old.....

Star Wars Sqadrons at $40 is a good price for what you get.
