Texts Reveal GOP Reps Mixed Pardon Requests with Help Overturning Election
The text messages Mark Meadows turned over to the House select committee investigating the January 6th attack show how frantically Trump and his allies worked to reverse the results of the 2020 election.
They also reveal how many members of Congress and other political allies were part of the chaotic push to overturn Trump's loss. And, in at least four cases, the text messages show political allies explicitly mixed requests for presidential pardons with help on the election efforts that were so important to Trump.
At least three of those requests were subsequently granted by Trump. They raise fresh, thorny, legal and ethical questions about the manner in which Trump wielded pardon power to help allies during his final days in office.
Republican Representatives Rick Allen, Ted Budd, Paul Gosar, and Vernon Jones each requested pardons for family friends, other Republicans, the private border wall crooks, and law enforcement officials accused of various crimes—and were granted them.
Feds Access Emails of Multiple MAGATard Conspirators
Federal investigators have obtained access to several email accounts, a draft autobiography, and other writings in which Republican Representative Scott Perry, Donald Trump elections attorney John Eastman, and former Justice Department officials Jeffrey Clark and Ken Klukowski discussed the 2020 election, according to a newly released order in the D.C. District Court.
The order unsealed Thursday indicates how broad a net federal prosecutors have cast for information from top Trump backers as part of the sprawling criminal investigation into January 6, 2021 and efforts to impede the transfer of presidential power.
Chief Judge Beryl Howell of the D.C. District Court allowed federal investigators to access email messages sent to and from Perry, who pushed false election fraud claims after the 2020 election and worked with Eastman, Clark, and Klukowski as they tried to overturn Trump's election loss.

U.S. President Joe Biden will award the Presidential Citizens Medal to 12 people on Friday during a ceremony at the White House to mark two years since the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, a White House official said.
The award, one of the country's highest civilian honors, will be given to law enforcement officers, election workers and state and local officials, the official said.
Biden will also deliver remarks on Friday on the second anniversary of the U.S. Capitol attacks, in which supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the building in a failed bid to block Congress from certifying the 2020 election outcome. -snip
