Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is remaining notably silent on the investigation into Former President Donald Trump for keeping White House documents at his home in Mar-a-Lago. -snip
Shitball Mitch's silence speaks volumes to the state of the GOP right now and they did it to themselves.
GOP Rep Backs Trump Despite His Call to "Terminate" the Constitution
Republican Representative Dave Joyce said Sunday that he did not want to be drawn into commenting on Donald Trump's recent call to terminate the Constitution over baseless claims of 2020 election fraud. "I will support whoever the Republican nominee is," Joyce said.
"That's a remarkable statement," Stephanopoulos said. "You just said you'd support a candidate who's come out for suspending the Constitution. You can't come out against someone who's for suspending the Constitution?" Stephanopoulos pushed back once again.
"He says a lot of things that, but that doesn't mean that it's ever going to happen," Joyce said. "I just don't think, at this point, he'll be able to get there."
A Republican legislator, who has sworn an oath to defend the Constitution, has pledged his support to a candidate who promises that, if elected, he will "shred" the Constitution. You cannot make this shit up. There are officially no good Republicans anymore. It is all party before country, and power for the sake of it.

"Donald Trump believes we should terminate “all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution” to overturn the 2020 election. That was his view on 1/6 and remains his view today. No honest person can now deny that Trump is an enemy of the Constitution." - Liz Cheney 12/04/22
Unfortunately, Liz Cheney is in the -minority-minority again. It's telling for the GOP in just how few Republicans are coming out against Trump's claim to dissolve the US Constitution.
The spin on it is putting the cart before the horse.
His shitty argument was that if it was going to be allowed to stand that he was cheated out of the election then you'd be as well throwing out the constitution. Not that the constitution should be thrown out in order to overturn the election. He's saying that those rules were already thrown out in order to cheat him out of the election.

He starts out by making an untrue statement. He poses a question based off that untrue statement. Then goes in with another lie, claiming the Constitution can be ignored, based on said lie.
As the 2024 presidential election cycle gets underway, the political arm of Turning Point USA, the right-wing organization run by Charlie Kirk, is losing a key asset: Students for Trump. The separation follows a failed effort by Kirk's main deputy, Tyler Bowyer, to assert greater control over the Students for Trump accounts. The changes floated would have included removing the Trump name and renaming the accounts as official Turning Point properties.
The idea fell flat with Students for Trump's national chairman, Ryan Fournier, according to people familiar with the discussions. Fournier indicated that he wanted the identification with Trump to remain explicit. Galas hosted by Turning Point at Trump's Mar-a-Lago club in Florida over the past two years have featured vehement debate among donors about whether nominating Trump again would harm the party's prospects.
The split shows how Turning Point USA and its affiliates are wrestling with their identity as the GOP seeks out a Trump alternative, while others remain loyal to Trump.
Trump Ally Defeats DeSantis Ally for Florida GOP Chair
Donald Trump is taking a victory lap in the wake of Saturday's vote for Republican Party of Florida Chair.
"We won a big Chairmanship in Florida over the DeSantis Reps, but actually, it's a win for ALL. That's the way we want it. Christian will be a great Chairman!"
Christian Ziegler, a close ally of Donald Trump, faced and defeated Leon County GOP Chair Evan Power, a Ron DeSantis ally, prevailing in a vote of 126–100 at the annual meeting held in Orlando.
If DeSantis thinks he can beat Trump, he has another thing coming. He does not even have majority support of his own party in his own state.
The House voted Tuesday to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), a vote that hasn’t taken place in more than 100 years.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) followed through on his promises and moved Monday to force a vote on a motion to vacate. On Tuesday afternoon, the chamber voted 216-210 on the motion to vacate, following a 208-218 vote on a motion to table Gaetz’s resolution to oust McCarthy. -snip
If you're the Democrats, you absolutely need to find a moderate Republican to throw support behind. It absolutely amazes me that no one is pointing out that cutting aid to Ukraine at this point and letting Russia win would be and unfathomable waste of resources and Ukrainian lives at this point. If that is truly the position of Republicans, just let Russia win... at this point the lives lost in Ukraine are only being lost because our support kept the war going: to let Russia win by cutting funding makes every lost life a waste, IMHO it would make Russian crimes, our fault.

The core of the Republican party are Trumpers, why the vast majority of them want to cut aid to Ukraine, among other shitty/reckless acts. Trump likes Putin, so they like Putin. "I was the apple in his [Putin] eye" -Trump, Aug 2023
So while you're correct, Democrats do need to find a moderate Republican to get behind, they're few and far between and they'd likely not survive. They abandoned McCarthy because of McCarthy's long history of making deals with Democrats and then pulling out or changing the terms into unreasonable levels.
If we cut aid to Ukraine, that's a clear greenlight for China to roll into Taiwain, another thing Trumpers want happen while Biden in POTUS.
