They were both armed and they had a politically motivated purpose, to stop the peaceful transfer of power and to keep Trump as president, even though he lost the election. Insurrection: Check. Attempted Coup: Check Domestic Terrorism: Check
It doesn't matter how many times you people make your special rules and/or move the goal post. Jan 6th 2021 will go down in the history books as a violent insurrection, failed coup and as domestic terrorism. Everyone that supported and/or voted for Trump in 2016 and again in 2020 is in part responsible for the Jan 6th 2021 insurrection, domestic terrorist attack on the capital and failed coup.
Jan 6th didn't happen overnight or in a vacuum, the seed was planted in 2016 when Trumpers either condoned Trump's ever increasing violent "knock the crap out of him!" rhetoric or claimed Trump wasn't doing it as a means to protect him, thereby emboldening Trump.
If Trumpers had put Trump in check early on, he would have either stopped the calls to violence then or lost the election.
My favorite part about all of this is that he has a strangle-hold on the Republcan voters. The party wants to push DeSantis, but the base wants Trump by a factor of 2:1. And the more exposure DeSantis gets outside of Florida, the more unpopular he becomes. He does not understand that his extremist policies do not appeal to anyone outside of the meth swamp that is Florida. He is an unlikeable little manlet who would get destroyed by Trump in a debate, if only for the fact that Trump would tower over him, try to intimmidate him, and pepper him with nicknames and insults. He would walk away from that looking like he got bullied like a little *****.
To add: Trump's stranglehold on the GOP is the GOP's own doing, they romanced, coddled and protected him over and over, if they hadn't, he'd be politically dead.
Trump's a Frankenstein's monster of their own making and he's coming to shit all over them now. If he doesn't get the Republican nomination, he will run in his own "MAGA Patriot Party of Trump" and Biden wins, if Trump gets the nom, Biden is likely to beat him again.
