I'm somewhere in the middle ground. I like Scorpion but don't love or hate him. Used to love him, but the repetitive recycling of his character along with seeing him everywhere as the posterboy just made me kinda tired of him. I don't see why one would hate Scorpion though even with that said. He's a legitimately cool character design. Too popular for his own good though, and anyone whose that kind of popular and pushed out to the level he is will always get some detractors.

Yep, and now with his vengeance satiated, the younger Sub-Zero appears to be the vengeful one now based on the trailer. Hopefully they make amends though like they eventually do in the main canon.
I like the character of Scorpion, He's usually my go to character in the games. But i have been trying out the different fighters rather then just keep picking him.
Just saw this earlier. It was great, possibly better than Scorpion's Revenge even. Like with that film, a fresh direction was taken with the writing. They handled Scorpion and younger Sub-Zero's relationship better from the get-go also, and Raiden competing in the tournament by sacrificing his godhood was a breath of fresh air. Beyond the MK2 tournament, the stuff with Shinnok was crazy too which is about all I can say without spoiling.
And while Johnny Cage didn't get to do that much, his presence was still appreciated all the more. He's the heart and soul of MK with the comic relief moments, and MK 2021 was really missing something without him, even though they tried to have Kano fill in that niche.
Probably wouldn't expect a sequel to this though unless Onaga gets resurrected or something later on. Battle of the Realms had a certain finality to it without feeling like it was leading into something else.
Are you kidding? The glorified kaiju battle was creative and awesome; by MK standards at least, and after being severely disappointed with the last game villain (Kronika), it was fun.
It sucks how the games and recent live action movie doesn't have this much personality to it that makes it stand out and fun like these animated films are. I wish the hacks at Netherrealm who do the game stories could be replaced by these writers or something.
Well this time it was Liu Kang being OP, but I guess is to be expected when he is the usual intended protagonist. In this context though it is contrived when he could not even beat Goro in the previous film, and now am supposed to buy him beating everyone else in the following film? Why did he not go DBZ on Goro like he did Shao Kahn? Just got stronger without explanation. That or Goro > Shao Kahn and a bunch of others I guess.
The aforementioned kaiju fight redeemed the Annihilation big monster fight at least. And yeah, Scorpion was handled fine here, especially his relationship with the younger Sub-Zero as mentioned. The all out brawl between them and the cyber Lin Kuei was awesome.

Yeah it was kinda dumb specially cause Khan handled Liu like a fly in the begining of the movie.
The fight with Sektor, Cyrax and Smoke was cool but it was handled in a kinda lame way I mean Sub Zero froze them at least 3-4 times but instead of dealing with them he went on to fight Scorpion than the cyborgs escaped again and again.
Also when Scorpion [SPOILER - highlight to read]: stabbed kaiju Shinnok in the forhead for a second I thought he was gonna defeat him. Thank god he didn't.
Along with some of the things already mentioned, one thing I found kind of dumb was [SPOILER - highlight to read]: Liu Kang seemingly initially struggled against Shang Tsung, but then stomps him one-handed after his arm gets messed up. If he was that much better than him the whole time, why not just immediately stomp him? Why slack off and get his arm cursed first?
I did enjoy the film overall though, even with the few nonsensical inconsistencies it had.

I actually didn’t really like this that much. They totally went off the rails with the ending, and Johnny Cage got absolutely no respect at all. Very disappointing considering how awesome the first was.
