Square Enix has revealed "Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake", which will release simultaneously worldwide. The game was announced in the Dragon Quest 35th anniversary special live stream, along with new information on the series’ upcoming lineup. There is currently no confirmed release date.
In Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake, players will be able to control a party of 2D characters. Like Octopath Traveler, there will be a sense of depth and layers. Producer Masaaki Hayasaka has previously worked on Square Enix’s Octopath Traveller, as well as Various Daylife. The game is planned to release on home consoles and is designed to cater to “both adult fans who grew up with the game, and children who will play the game for the first time.”
The platforms it'll be on are still unconfirmed.
I'm ****ing excited for this. I finished 1 & 2 on Switch, started 3 but didn't get too far into it. This is exactly what I need.
Was just thinking how good old fashioned 2d animation is being replaced by this 3d masquerading as 2d crap. 3d animation is LAZY compared to meticulously hand drawn 2d sprites. There is nothing impressive about half assed 3d renderings, make GOOD 3d if you're gonna use 3d technology.
