It'll be sad to see Considine go out of this but hopefully he's raised his profile enough to get bigger opportunities. Because he's not only a phenomenal actor he's also a tremendous director who can get pure gold from his cast. This scene from Tyrannosaur, even out of the context of the film, is absolutely electric.
It's a brutal, bleak watch. It's an absolute sin that Coleman never even got nominated for the Bafta that year because the only other performance that came close to it was Tilda Swinton in We Need to Talk About Kevin. Back when Ezra Miller was good.
Considine's other directorship he also stars in and is also tremendous
Loving this series so far, this and Dahmer from Netflix are strong contenders for show of the year for me

How do your rank it against GoT seasons 1-4 and GoT seasons 5-8?
I broke them apart because there's a clear and accepted difference in writing quality between the first and last four among the majority of viewers, with the former being superior.
Bluntly, there's a clear difference in writing quality between season 1 of GoT and the rest of the. 2-4 are definitely better than what came before but season 1 is easily the best and the cracks were showing as early as season 2.
With that said, I wouldn't compare it to any season of GoT accurately. It is far more enjoyable than most of later stage GoT but it also far schlockier and more poorly-written than seasons 2-4 and especially 1.
Agreed, 1 is the best, but I felt 2-4 were just about as good. While 5 -8 were a varying degrees of shit to okay, with a few good parts sprinkled throughout. eg Like the Hardhome battle and Little Finger's downfall
It was a 'were would you rank HoD in terms of quality in the overall GoT verse'. Which you kinda did
The politicking is far superior to GoT and it's helped immeasurably by the super slow build up to the Dance of Dragons. Oddly the only person I don't like in that regard is Larys Strong because his machinations seems to ridiculously obvious yet nobody picks up on it and there also isn't anyone else for him to test his wits against, unlike the dynamic between say Littlefinger, Varys and Tyrion for example.
The biggest downside so far is the lack of scope. Even just in Westeros a lot of the houses have so far been effectively ignored but that will change once they start to declare for either side in the coming war.
Team green. Alicent is literally just trying to keep her family intact in the face of what's about to happen. Rhaenyra sucks. She's made nothing but stupid, emotional decisions and then threatened/gas lit everyone into falling in line. Everything that's happening is on her and King Vis. Dude spoiled her too much.
Anyway, agreed with the general ranking above so far. Season 1>>2=3>4>HOTD>>>>>>>>>the rest
