Yesterday I drove to Uvalde and donated blood.

The decorum of the city was so somber and heartbreaking. I wanted to drive to the school and look, but the entire block was roped off.

I wish I could have done more.

This article has the footage:

I agree we need more information, but I can understand how parents could become desperate after seeing police in droves but none of them stepping in to deal with the situation.

Any parent would be running to save their child, active shooter or not.

I read some of the last laws limiting gun sales will go very soon.

Didn't the NRA rewrite the second ammendment in people's minds?

I want to hear justification from the gun advocates. I want to ask them are these dead children a price worth paying for their right to bear arms?

I want to hear their BS that UK knife crime is just as bad.

Unfortunately I think theyve all been banned so wont be responding.

i am by no means a gun advocate, but what exactly is your solution here?

ban the sale of firearms across the board, then have the police and military preform house to house searches to collect the hundreds of millions of firearms that are already owned by people in the states (many of which arent even registered)? maybe ban 3d printers and cnc machines while you're at it, just to ensure that people cannot create their own firearms at home?

i understand the urge to kneejerk react to a tragedy like this (i.e. "ban all assault type rifles asap"), but there is not a clear course of action here. it is a lot more complex then most understand.

the bigger issue is why in the **** the police just stood outside the building while children were being slaughtered inside. that needs to be addressed first and foremost.

Some were banned, some rage-quit and some forced a ban so they could leave without looking like they rage-quit. You can decide which is the most pathetic.

That factual point is hand waved away via some version of: "America is different, it won't work here".

Which strangely enough is often said by the same type of people who love to say "America is the greatness country in the world and can accomplish anything!"

Apparently anything except stopping gun violence.

Texas Department Public Safety spokesman Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez confirmed to a reporter that police officers went into Robb Elementary School to get their own children during the massacre.

A clip of a live interview with Olivarez from Tuesday has gone viral, amid outrage over reports that frantic families, who complained about the one-hour of police inaction during the massacre, were held back by police.

"Right. So what we do know, Vanessa, right now, that there was some police officers, families trying to get their children out of school, because it was a active shooter situation right now. It's a terrible situation right now. It's just a terrible, it's a terrible tragedy of another took place."

Maker of Gun Used in Massacre Posted Image of Child Holding It with a Bible Verse

Eight days before a Texas teenager killed 19 children and two teachers at Robb Elementary School, the manufacturer of the rifle used in the massacre in a post on social media that featured a toddler holding the same weapon with the caption, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Daniel Defense published the post on May 16th, the same day the Robb Elementary shooter turned 18 and bought the rifle used in the massacre.

I’m a combat veteran (Infantry) and I own several firearms including a Ruger AR 5.56 rifle. I fully support my Second Amendment.

However, I’m 100% on board for stricter laws, gun purchasing policies, and background checks.

The problem isn’t guns. It’s people. Period.

Even if “assault” rifles were completely banned and made illegal to own, a non “assault” rifle or pistol can deal the same damage.

All bullets speak the same language.

Eh, come on now.

If I cloned you and 1st you had an AR-15 rifle with en extended clip and 2nd you had a 6-shot .22 caliber handgun, 1st you is going to be able to do a whole lot more damage, to more people, in a far less amount of time.

I’m not disputing that at all.

But all bullets do the same thing. They penetrate their intended target. A .22 can kill someone just as easily as a 5.56.

Only psychopaths/mentally unhinged people fire bullets into innocent humans.

My point was that people are the problem, not one specific model of rifle. Other kinds of firearms have been used in senseless massacres, not just AR models.

We need to focus more on people than demonizing weapons.

I have a shotgun in the UK and one here in Nigeria too. Both required a lot of checking.

In the years when we had an assault weapons ban, mass shootings decreased 43%. In the years since it expired, they have gone up 243%. So clearly, laws work.
