Frodo: I cant do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. Its all wrong. By rights we shouldnt be here...but we are. Its like in the great srories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of Darkness andanger, they were, and sometimes you didnt want to know the end because how could the end be happy. How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened... but in the end its only a passing thing. The Shadow even darkness will pass. A new day WILL come. And when the sun shines it will shine out clearer. Those are the stories that stay with you and meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But, I think, Mr. Frodo, i do understand... iknow now. Folk in those stories have a lot of chances to turn back, but they didnt. They kept going because they were holding on to something!
FRODO: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That theres some good in this world, Mr Frodo and its worth fighting for.
I gave LXG two and a half stars. My system is a basically watchable movie is 2, less than 2 is a stinker, 1 or less is an absolute waste of time and money. 3 stars is a very good movie, 4 stars (my max) is a great movie, perfect in every way, and with something extra (extreme wow factor).
Sean Connery is always enjoyable to watch. There were some good special effects, good acting, good scenery. I could have given it 3 stars. But the special effects (in my opinion) were too much, not believable enough, and actually were detrimental to the movie. I just watched Pirates of the Caribbean, and the special effects in it really filled out the plot.
In LXG (without giving too much away for those considering going to it), the part in Venice, the special effects portraying the destruction in the city were just too much. Mixing the famous characters together was also too much. It left me scratching my head. Tom Sawyer (no reflection on the acting job of the actor who portrayed him) just didn't fit in the plot.
I would have rather seen Sean Connery made the center of the plot, and supported by other people. But superimposing the various legendary characters (so many of them) really made the plot unbelievable.
I like a lot of movies that other people don't. So I'm not a nit-picker. I just didnt quite get this one. If you're a teenager and just like the action, it is probably worth seeing. But a great movie it is not.
My apologies to some of the actors, who I think did a pretty good job.
i'm not sure if you noticed in the movie, maybe they had sawyer in it so that quartermaine reach out to him like a son? throughout the movie, they taught each other things. i thought that bit was cool. by the way, shane west used to be on once and again, a walk to remember, ... that's all i know for now. do you know anything of the other actors filmography for skinner and harker?
currently, i'm reading the book version of the movie. it's pretty good and insightful into the character's thoughts more. if you didn't like the movie so much, i reccommend you read the book.
lxg comes out on dvd around december 1 or 2. right?
I HATE that part of it. The movie would be so much better without that upstart. LXG was perfectly good w/out Sawyer, but they added him just because America is so arrogant that they have to add in a roguishly handsome Yank, with absolutely no flaws, just to show off how great we are.
This a British graphic novel, thoroughly British, and yet the American has to pop in for no apparent reason, and he even kills the bad guy who is threatening to assault EUROPE. Gives usd a good image, doesn't it?
Other than the infamous American, though, I though LXG was great. The chemistry was tense, just the way it was suposed to be, and the villian was brilliant, the plot twists fun, and the special effects awesome (except for Mr. Hyde). I give it an 8/10
