Synopsis: In April 1975, a young Vietnamese boy and his sister are sent to live in an orientation camp for refugees on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in California. All of the people the children encounter tell them their stories, such as: the children who watch and wait for their mothers to join them; the camp cook, who paints in his spare time and befriends one young boy; the ex-translator, who, because of his bilingual skills, assumes a leadership role, while yearning for a lost love; and the staff sergeant who rules over the camp, speaking through bullhorns and learning about humanity.
