Bernie Mac Sits Down To Dinner
[Wednesday, June 26th, 2002]
Columbia Pictures is developing a remake of its 1967 Stanley Kramer-directed feature "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," reports The Hollywood Reporter.Bernie Mac in discussions to topline.
Columbia released the original feature, which starred Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn as parents whose attitudes are challenged when their daughter begins dating a black man, played by Sidney Poitier.
There is no script or director on board the project as of yet, but the new version would see the ethnicities reversed, with Mac playing the Tracy role of the father whose daughter dates a white man.
The original "Dinner" was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including best picture and best director. It won two Oscars -- best actress for Hepburn and best writing for William Rose.
The comedian is gearing up for a busy summer, also shooting such projects as the Chris Rock-directed "Head of State" for DreamWorks and Dimension Films' "Bad Santa."
