Hannibal Bites Box-Office
[Sunday, February 11th, 2001]Hannibal Lector has made a killing for MGM with a record shattering non-holiday opening of $58 million, which now is the third best opening and just behind Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace. This is Anthony Hopkins biggest opening, his last film The Mask of Zorro was nothing in comparison. Its also MGM biggest opening scoop. And it broke the record for the largest opening for a R-rated movie, beating Scary Movie.
Hannibal is an adaptation of Thomas Harris's best seller Hannibal, so wherever he goes he breaks records, first the best seller, and now best non-holiday opening what else lies install for Mr Lecter. But one question has to be asked was it the hype, the book or Hopkins that pulled in the crowds i'd have to say a mixture of them all. But will he hold his grip on the box-office for a long time, well that depends on the quality of the film. If you still havent seen it then you can read a review at Ground Zero Hannabil Review.
