Synopsis: Shortly after her brother's death abroad, Yu Jane, a Taipei high school teacher, gets involved with a married entrepreneur, Xiang Guo-chien. To save his political future, Xiang vows to break off relations with Yu, but cannot. They continue meeting in a small, foreign town until one day when Yu learns that Candidate Xiang--who's become entangled with mobsters--has been shot. Distraught, Yu's world unravels further--friendships are lost, a troubled student self-destructs and Yu finds herself pregnant with Xiang's child. At the end, Yu aborts the pregnancy and, ultimately, finds herself alone.
