Frank Darabont To Write Indy 4

Oscar-nominated writer and director Frank Darabont is near a deal to write a fourth "Indiana Jones" movie, reports Variety.

Darabont, the writer-director behind "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile," is expected to write a script from a story devised by Lucas and approved by both Spielberg and Ford.

Darabont has had some experience with the Jones franchise. He wrote several episodes of the 1992-93 TV series "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles," as well as several editions of the "The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones" video series in 1999.

According to the trade, Ford is also set to return as the bullwhip-cracking archeologist. Ford is said to have agreed with Spielberg and producer George Lucas of "Star Wars" fame back in 1993 to put together a fourth film about the rugged professor in a fedora who battles snakes, spiders and all manner of bad guys in his globe-trotting quest for valuable antiquities.

The movie is slated for a July 4, 2005 release from Paramount Pictures.
