Denzel Washington To Be 'Man On Fire' For Scott

Denzel Washington is negotiating to star in "Man on Fire," a thriller that will shoot next year, reports Variety.

Washington will play an embittered former Marine who's persuaded to take a job as bodyguard of the child of a family that has been living under threats from kidnappers. When the child is kidnapped and killed accidentally in a botched exchange for a ransom, the soldier devotes himself to avenging her death.

The Fox project, based on a novel by A.J. Quinnell, will be directed by Tony Scott, who last worked with Washington in "Crimson Tide."

The original story occurred in Italy, but Scott is considering setting the fictionalized version in Mexico City.
