Synopsis:
A documentary comprised of Gillan Armstrong's three short films which follow the fortunes and misfortunes of a trio of working class women from Adelaide, Australia now coupled with a present-day study following the lives of their daughters. Together with editor Suresh Ayyar, Armstrong combs presents snipets and stories from material intermittently shot over the course of 20 years. In "Smokes and Lollies" (1975) the girls were 14 years old; in "Fourteen's Good, Eighteen's Better" (1980) they were 18 years old; in "Bingo, Bridesmaids and Braces" (1988) they were 26 years old; and in the present film they are now mothers of 14-year-olds.
