'The Producers' Comes Back To Big Screen

Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane have signed on to bring the Mel Brooks' hit Broadway show The Producers back to the big screen, according to Variety.

The two stars, who just began their second Broadway run, have inked mid-seven-figure deals to star in a film adaptation.

A feature adaptation brings The Producers full circle, since the stage show is itself an adaptation of Brooks' 1968 film, starring Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel.

Other key members behind the stage show are also said to be on board, including Brooks, who will produce, his co-writer Thomas Meehan, and Susan Stroman to helm.

Set to start in early 2005, with a late 2005 release planned, this due to Broderick and Lane both busy through 2004.
