Zaven is an Armenian immigrant and a single father, trying to look after 7-year-old Amy as well as find a new life in the USA. In order to keep his job, he must pass an exam in English, which he as yet barely understands. He watches sadly as Amy gets seduced by a lifestyle of money, envying her aunt, who has married a rich man. Zaven begins to wonder if it would be better for Amy to live with her aunt, although he cannot bear to think of losing her.
