Richard Alfieri's Play To Be Adapted For Screen
[Tuesday, June 18th, 2002]Universal Pictures has acquired film rights to Richard Alfieri's comedic stage play "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks," with Arthur Allan Seidelman attached to direct, reports Variety.
"Dance," which Alfieri will adapt for the big screen, is about Lily Harrison, a retiree living in Florida who hires a dance instructor for six weeks only to be greeted by an acerbic transplanted New Yorker named Michael. After a rocky start, Michael and Lily learn they have more in common then either imagined.
The play had its world premiere at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood last year and is heading for Broadway in the fall.
Seidelman directed the original production and also will direct the New York run.
