Adam Sandler To Star 'Son Of The Bride' Remake

Sony's Columbia Pictures has picked up English-language remake rights to Sony Pictures Classics' Oscar-nominated Argentine film "Son of the Bride" (El Hijo de la Novia), reports Variety.

Columbia bought it as a vehicle for Adam Sandler to star in and produce through his Happy Madison Prods.

"Son," directed by Juan Jose Campanella, was nominated for the foreign language Academy Award this year. The film is about a man who has a crisis as he lives in the shadow of his father, feels guilty for not regularly visiting his aging mother or spending time with his daughter -- now in the custody of his ex-wife -- and cannot make a commitment to his girlfriend. A minor heart attack leads to a reunion with a childhood friend, who helps the man deal with his past and move forward.
