'Traffic' Director Takes Clooney To 'Syriana'
[Thursday, December 11th, 2003]Warner Bros. are is moving forward with the political thriller Syriana, according to Variety. George Clooney is attached to star.
The movie, which looks into the intelligence business, is based on the Robert Baer memoir "See No Evil: The True Story of a Foot Soldier in the CIA's War on Terrorism." Clooney hopes to play a character based on Baer, who spent 20 years in the trenches for the CIA.
A script by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic), which he's also directing, used the book to create a Traffic-like tapestry of intersecting storylines that range from foreign policy and intelligence to the oil industry and terrorism.
Title is a geographical term, referring to the Middle East hot spots that have proved so volatile to U.S. security. The film will be logistically ambitious, likely shooting in locales that include North Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the U.S.
