American Idol To Get Big Screen Adaptation

American Idol
Fox TV hit "American Idol" could be going to the big screen which is landing at 20th Century Fox, though no deal has been finalized, reports Variety.

"Idol" creator Simon Fuller and studio co-chair Tom Rothman both expressed strong interest Tuesday in proceeding with the project, which would represent a triumph of synergy within parent News Corp. if the film goes ahead.

Rothman told investors at Morgan Stanley's communications conference in Miami there was a "good chance" that his studio would develop the film. In response, Fuller issued a statement that said, "I'm very happy to extend my relationship with Fox and News Corp.I'm also looking forward to working closely with my bother Kim Fuller and repeating the success we had together with 'Spice World.' "

Speculation has been buzzing about the project. Fuller, who heads 19 Entertainment, confirmed last week he was developing a feature film for "Idol" winner Kelly Clarkson and finalist Justin Guarini, mixing real-life adventures with scripted hijinks.

The Sept. 4 two-hour season finale of "Idol" averaged 22.8 million viewers, giving Fox its second-best viewer tally for an evening of programming.
