Kasi Lemmons will direct "The Battle of Cloverfield" from her own script for Laura Ziskin ("Spider-Man") to produce for Columbia Pictures, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
"Cloverfield" is a fable that takes place in a fictitious Southern town where ghosts of the past conspire to change the future.
Columbia picked up the project in a pre-emptive bid for studio-based Ziskin, who had been wanting to work with Lemmons since getting to know her at this year's Academy Awards ceremony. Ziskin produced the awards show, which included a tribute to Sidney Poitier, whose premise Lemmons conceived and directed.
