'The Bridge Of San Luis Rey' Gets Adaptation

The Bridge of
San Luis ReyKanzaman and Pembridge Pictures are to make "The Bridge of
San Luis Rey," a $22 million adaptation of Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer-winning novel, reports Variety.

Mary McGuckian ("This Is the Sea") will helm the ensemble drama set in early 18th-century Peru. The cast of American and European actors is expected to be announced in two weeks.

Set in the 1740s, pic tells the stories of five people who plunge to their deaths when the San Luis Rey bridge collapsed.

The movie is scheduled to begin shooting Jan. 7 in Spain.
