'The Defiant Ones' To Get Remake

The Defiant Ones

The Defiant Ones (1958)"The Defiant Ones," Stanley Kramer's 1958 thriller starring Tony Curtis and Sydney Poitier as escaped convicts bound at the wrist, is being remade at MGM, reports Variety.

The studio is partnered on the project with "Rush Hour" producer Arthur Sarkissian, who has signed a first-look deal with the company.

"The Defiant Ones" is likely to be Sarkissian's first project. He has also acquired remake rights to "El Cid," Anthony Mann's 1961 epic, which starred Charlton Heston (news) as the 11th century Spanish hero. Martin Campbell ("GoldenEye") is attached to direct, though it's not clear if it will be produced through the MGM deal.
