Peter Buchman to adapt
Eragon, the Christopher Paolini-penned best-selling fantasy novel, according to Variety.
Eragon is about a youth whose discovery of a dragon egg leads him to become a knight and battle an evil king.
Buchman knows his way around an epic. He made a splashy multimillion-dollar deal with IEG on one of the Alexander the Great projects, though the project got shelved when Oliver Stone made his film with Colin Farrell.
Buchman has also written the script for
Jurassic Park III and is writing
The War Magician as a directing vehicle for
Master and Commander helmer Peter Weir.
Eragon, which the studio bought late last year, has become a publishing phenom, partly because its author is only 17.
The medieval-set tale revolves around a farm boy who learns he is the last of a breed of benevolent Dragon Riders, whose magical powers derived from their bond with the beasts.
