Here's a better idea...get up, and go see it.

just saw it, it sucked, boring recycled cliches of vampires and werewolfs, plus it conflicted with its own logic many a time. tired story with tired plot twists that could be seen from a mile away, and sadly it set the tone for a sequel, not a good thing.

So what made it really suck? Give us some detailed examples if you will.

I definately expected this kind of reaction toward Underworld. I havent seen it yet, but its in a genre where half the people who see it will think its great whereas the other half with think it really sucked...i for one think its going to turn out to be pretty good.

it sucked because it was incredibly predictable, including the plot twists. plus it was just boring most of the time, the story was generic and overused, they even recycled footage

It was okay, but nothin' special. Had a lot of mistakes though

it had way to many inconsistancies and illogical plot twists, plus it was just an all around boring and bad movie. one of the movies that would have cought no ones interest had it not involved vampires AND werewolves.

What were some of the inconsistancies and illogical plot twists?

they claim that a bite from a vampire or werewolf will automatically kill a human being, but kate beckinsale was bitten and she was fine.

the one werewolf got shot with those silver bullets but didnt die for like an hour and a half.

the werewolves spent most of the big battle at the end in human form, when fighting in werewolf form would have been much effective.

there are many many more, but that movie was so bad that i pushed as much of it as possible out of my head.

1. They were saying that if you were bitten by a vampire and werewolf you would die instantly(both blood types wwere toxic to humans). That why they were looking for the desendant of curvenus (I didn't spell it right), becuase his bloodline was able to live after a bite from both speicies. Thats why michael was so important. He was first bitten by the leader of the werewolfs. Then they stoped his transformation with the syrum. They had to do that becuse they needed the blood of a pure breed vampire. They killed the Pure breeds on the train for their blood. They never got the chance to use that blood because of the raid. That is why the leader of the werewolfs told her to bite him. Soon after that he changed into you know what.

It was victor who didn't want the two species to mate. Remeber it was victor who killed his own daughter, becuase she was pregnant by the leaders of the werewolfs.

2. I agree he should have dies after being shot by the modified silver bullet.

3.During the last battle some stayed in human form and others were in wolf form. Remember when they stated that the oldest and strongest of us could change at will. The younger werewolf needed the moon inorder to change. So not off of them could change at will.

but these i can forgive, i am usually one to over look plot holes or illogical happenings in movies....as long as the movie simply entertains me.... this one did not, i kept looking at my watch waiting for it to end. i thought it was very boring... and predictable.

you know blackice, what you just did is a very simple thing to do, a silly overly simple synopsis can be done for every genre. the thing about horror movies is that they take a different type of skill and talent to make. they rely more on the talent of the creator and the director then the actors (probably the only genre that can do this) .

Also your synopsis shows me you have only seen the bad horror movies, not the classics that are truley great and obviously took alot of thought and talent to make presentable and work.

the shining, TCM, night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, day of the dead, henry - portrait of a serial killer, last house on the left, 28 days later, evil dead, zombie, the beyond, cannibal holocaust. just to name a few.

i gave up trying to figure out that stupid movie after first 5 minutes.

just saw it...all i gotta say is that it could have been better.

This film was out about a month ago (also when I went to see it), but it seems the only film which I aint seen reviewed,

Basicly it is about the ordinary world but instead there are a few underground gangs of Warewolfs (who only want the place to themseleves and live in sewers), and Vampires (who live in a mansion and live the high life and have rules and regulations)

Basicly I thought the film could have been a bit more believable and a bit more understanding. The film is based on a vampire who betrays his fellow friends and helps the warewolfs to plan an attack to take over, so with that action a little vixon of a vampire goes into the cellar and wakes up the very first Vampire (leader) called Vincent(who has been awoken a 100 years early)!, then things start to stir up and alot of battles are fought, the battles are mainly fought to retrieve this "special" human who is half warewolf half human and probably something else...

Overall I think there was far too much rain and a very dark movie, supposidly there is set to be a second part to it but i would believe it would be boring...

I really didn't like it...

I really enjoyed this movie and Scott Speedman looked tasty as a ww/vamp.

I havn't seen it but from the trailer it seems very Romeo and Juliet-ish.

not really Romeo & Julier, didnt seem to be a huge love story tied to this movie, it does remind me of romeo and juliet due to the clothes and technique the film makers used.

First off, the Vampire Elder's name is Viktor, not Vincent

While Underworld had obvious flaws, that's true, it was still a great movie. The plot left a lot to be covered (leaving it open for Underworld2 and 3). The characters were well-played (w/ the possible exception of Kraven). The love scenes were lacking, sure, but there will likely be improvement. The action, which was great, took a back seat to the story, an element that many movies seem to have ignored as of late. The dialogue was witty, although underused, the character development was obvious and well done, and many other thing which elude me at the moment.

I recently read the novelization of the movie, nd I must admit, if they put everything from there into the movie, it would have been almost perfect. Ther actually scene in the daytime (which is better than just having a time lapse), and other scenes left out of the movie, such as Selene killing some death Dealers (which shows some of her devotion for Michael).

Anyway, I give the movie 8/10, the noveliztion 10/10

i found it pretty boring actually,lol, i went on my b'day to see it and well i was very disapointed, i waited ages for it to cum out, and when it does, its a load of poo.
there should hav bin more action and well more gore, if they had abit more of these i reckon it would of bin a gr8 movie!

I really liked Underworld. Kate Beckinsale was incredible as Selene.

I agree with Lord Soth completely about the novel. It would have been really good if the movie had managed to include everything that's in the book. For example, in the novel, Selene attacks Viktor before Michael (as a hybrid) appears. That would have been great as the film had too much gunplay and not enough hand-to-hand for me.

All the same it was very good and I look forwards to the sequel.

And did anyone notice that there didn't seem to be any female Lycans in the movie? I hope that we'll see some in the next one.

There's a SE edition coming out on DVD with close to 30 minutes of unreleased/added footage, May do the book justice, although I loved it as it is.

i admit there were a few minor problems with this movie but it was just overall pretty damn good....i stared at that damn screen...at sexy selene....in her tight leather(which btw is made out of latex....which is used for *ahem* other things... .... )and her awesome double barettas...her shurikens....everything about her screams assassin.....as for the story...i thought there was some depth to it...also...why the hell does everyone think this is a romeo and juliet spin off? if you looked at it close enough you people would realize that michael is neutral....he doesnt belong to the brotherhood of the lycans...

But the Vampiric Coven is aware that Michael was turned into a Lycan

I really had a good time watching the movie. I got drawn into the story. I thought it was cool to have a human-werewolf-vampire hybrid. I thought the movie had some good fight scenes. It was a pretty good movie that I would recommend. I actually saw if for the first time on dvd.

*** out of 5..it had a good story line and it followed through for like the first 30 minutes but then it stepped in dog crap and slid all over the place. The heroine was good and Vamps Vs werewolves is better but my god it could have been sooooooo much better!

I haven't seen it yet but i hear it drags on a bit and would have been better if it was a shorter film. Unfortunately I'm not too keen on Kate Beckinsale as an actress. I just never seem to warm to her on screen. She says all her lines perfect but there's no real emotion there.

the movie was entertaining. the usual redunduncy of werewolves vs vampires are to be expected. however, i thought that there were some interesting twists that were added. the action scenes were above average and the acting was good (except for speedman, he always seem to be whispering his lines... SPEAK UP MAN!!!). my first impression after seeing the movie was that it's a gothic romeo and juliet. two families at war, two lovers that can't be... classic R&J.

Some of you guys must be on something bad. Underworld (in my opinion) was the worst movie of last year. The effects sucked, The script sucked, the fight scenes and the performances sucked, so why see it?
It was trying to copy the success of the blade movies but failed. Good plot but they ruined it and could have done a lot more with it. 2 out of 5 stars from me

Success of the Blade movies? The 2nd one isn't exactly held in high regard, while I love them both, there is still no correlation between the two.

Trust me, It got the idea of a vampire movie off blade and blade alone.
And underworld is crap, anyway.

This movie was exactly what I was expecting. Nothing new at all. Just lame special effects within a lame and mundain storiline that nearly put me to sleep.

They had a good plot Vamps Vs Werewolves but they didnt use it right at all.

How else could they have used it? Them teaming up? Then it would have seemed like more a Blade rip, i.e. Daywalker w/ The Blood Pack.

And the first time u reviewed van helsing u said it was a great movie. And u must say that it is better than underworld. I found pirates childish.
What was childish about van helsing, lot of action and humour and a good plot. "Oh its so childish".

"Van Helsing", considering what I seen of it, on the whole may be better than "Pirates", which I didn't care for either, personally. But "Pirates" did produce atleast 1 scene stealer in Johnny Depp, which is more than I can say for anyone in "Van Helsing". That's an opinion that's going ot be shared by alot more people than just myself.

Also, "Van Helsing" was certainly not a kids movie per se, but the comprehension level of the people that saw it wouldn't have to be much higher than that of one. Which, in all fairness, holds true for most summer blockbuster movies.

That movie however, was extremely overhyped, and it's box office earnings reflected such after it's opening week. It dropped over 67% nationwide, for a reason.

Comparing a movie like "Van Helsing" to an EPIC in storytelling and cinema such as "Return of the King" is sheer madness. While I'm a not exactly a fan of Academy Awards, but any movie that wins 15 Academy Awards, including all 11 Oscars it was nominated for honestly has no equal.

"In your opinion", Helsing may own ROTK, but according to us down here on Earth, it pales in comparison, and rightfully so.

I don't believe you were referring to me when talking about reviewing Van Helsing, because I never did, never would, and probably never will.

Machete, I appreciate the warning for Destructo here, but I am no better than anyone here. I will say that I am not exactly an "average movie goer", and that I do spend a solid chunk of my free time on movies, both watching and analyzing those of all genres. if Destructo wishes to debate with me, settign aside opinions in exchange for valid points, bring it on! I love to debate!

That said, Destructo, don't take offense. I'm pretty outspoken as it is, and I don't back down from debates. That's just me. It's nice to see someone so passionate about a film, but given the general consensus of Van Helsing, I'd advise baring a little thicker skin. It's opened itself up to endless ridicule.

That means its popular but van helsing wasnt even available for nomination then, next year it will be. And pirates is a bit more childish than van helsing, I reckon. It didnt copy matrix or blade. It was a great movie, i just saw it last night. Blade was about him hunting vampires, this was about vamps vs. Lycans, totally different. and THe Matrix, i'll just say not even remotely close.

I can't wait to see part two of Underworld. Does any body know when it will come out? Oh, yeah, another thing I really liked Lucian played by Michael Sheen. Is he going to be on the next film? I know what happened to his character in Underworld I but I still keep hoping that he's still going to be on the next one.

i also really liked lucian, but i kinda doubt he'll be in underworld considering he kind of died but you never know. i'm aobviously a lycan fan all the way. and the end of that movie just leads up to a sequel. that other dude that was resereccted at the end is gonna be pissed. the sequel will be great, but the first one will probably be better.

Loved this movie! I agree. Nothing like Blade or The Matrix. Great action scenes and effects. The darkness to the movie was fabulous, and the bad guys were BAD! I would love to see a sequel.
