Why Yoda hid?

theEviljedi
Many say he went in hiding to Dagobah because he was a coward.Others say he was ordered to by other Jedi during the hunt. What do you think?

UnknownBountyHunter
I kind of think his hiding was of cowardness. I mean all Jedi being killed would be a reason to run for the dark. Hell, I would haul butt if I knew everyone in town was being killed off. Yoda not being agile but fragile would go into hiding for a good reason...protection.

theEviljedi
I think he would of stode his ground if he was forced to.I think Obi Wan made him hide there after the births of the twins for protection. For he may be the only existing Jedi in a few short years and would be needed to train them.

UnknownBountyHunter
We might be breaking barriers here. If Yoda hid when the twins were born, maybe it wasn't hiding but actually he was merely saving Luke's life. Luke said Dagobah was familiar, maybe he wasn't born there but lived there for a brief period of time (long enough to remember of course). Also, separation of the twins is PERFECT. I don't know about everyone else but I feel it would be harder for the dark side to sense the actual location if they are both apart. I dunno, maybe I am talking out of my ass but it seems reasonable. Also, after the Dark Side senses Luke's actual presence on Dagobah, OB1 takes Luke leaves to either Alderaan or Tatooine. If Tatooine, he gather's Owen and Beru and fly to Tatooine where OB1 hides and Beru and Owen start a new life, or OB1 just flies to Tatooine where Owen and Beru already live and use the "leave the baby on the doorstep" type of deal. What do you guys think?

Dim
I think he knew that he still had work to do so he had to go somewhere and wait it out till Luke come to him.

theEviljedi
Why is that breaking barriers?

UnknownBountyHunter
Its a form of speech expression. It means we are unlocking holes in to why the OT and Prequels are connected.

theEviljedi
When?

UnknownBountyHunter
Read, EvilJedi, Read.

theEviljedi
I don't see anything i wrote breaking barriers.

UnknownBountyHunter
*~sigh~* Never mind, just continue posting.

theEviljedi
I think him hiding there in wait of the twins would connect nicely.

Dim
So do I...it's old and patient...he can wait.

theEviljedi
Yeah. He's over 800.Whats another 20 years to a guy like him.

Dim
Actually I'm guessing he's just "dying" to die....He probably wonders what took the brat so long.

UnknownBountyHunter
LOL Dim smile Actually, that is one doubtful scenario (The waiting for a twin), I don't think he was dying to die either.

theEviljedi
Yeah he just wants to die so he can see his love Yaddle.

Dim
Oh...he can lust after Yaddle but me and a 65 yr old makes you puke....crazy...

He and Yaddle are JUST friends.

theEviljedi
Hey there both old so what the heck.

Dim
What? She's young for her species...She's just a young pup.

theEviljedi
Well shes still over 200.

theEviljedi
What about Mace and Adi Galla?smile

Dim
She's his foster daughter....NO! Mace isn't like that...he's noble.

UnknownBountyHunter
So...

theEviljedi
Well it was just a joke.

UnknownBountyHunter
Oh.

Jedi Mercenary
Many Jedis are still in hiding, ( By Still, I mean the most recent books ) because they are in fear of Vader. They still hide because, they must remain cut off, they think that Vader is the new emperor

UnknownBountyHunter
How come we never hear from them???

theEviljedi
Because they don't want to be heard from.

Dim
That's the way it usually goes...

UnknownBountyHunter
I still think that sooner or later in the OT, Yoda or someone could have mentioned the Jedi's hiding.

theEviljedi
Maybe he thought they were all dead.

Dim
Actually, since it just says that in the book maybe they are all dead, according to Lucas.

The Maker
Only Yoda and Obi-Wan go into hiding as they survive the Clone Wars. They hide as the Emperor is determined to wipe the Jedi from existence. Yoda isn't foolish and knows he can't fight the Empire by himself. It is all linked to when Obi-Wan tells Han "there are alternatives to fighting".

tarkin told vader "the jedi are extinct. their fire is gone out of the universe. you my friend are all that's left of their religion." this is interesting. it indicates that tarkin thinks they are gone. RELIGION?!? and SITH AND JEDI IS THE SAME RELIGION?!? well, maybe one is "a shadowy reflection of the other" (10 points if you can name where that quote is from smile )

as far as yoda, it is likely that he had a "vision" of the future and knew, as dim said above, that he wasn't finished with things yet. that seems as plausible as anything.

King Jedi
That qoute is from Star Wars.

Xizor
UBH, our thoughts on the Yoda thing are very similar. I feel the Jedi are in loads of trouble when the twins are split up at birth. Yoda and Ob1 flee w/ Luke to Dagobah. Leia is sent with Bail and the droids(and maybe Amidala) to Alderaan. Vader knows of 1 kid, so he finds them on Dagobah. But Yoda senses them coming and Ob1 flees and dumos Luke on Owen's doorstep. Yoda, diverts Vader's attention long enough for Ob1 to escape, but his wounded somehow(daekside storm?) and left for dead by Vader. He then wats for Luke to be brought for his training.

theEviljedi
I think Vader confronts Yoda on Dagobah. They then battle on the swampy planet and Vader later knocks Yoda uncounsious and leaves thinking he is dead. What do you think about that?

Jedimaster3838
I would love to see Vader fight Yoda. I just want to see Yoda fight somebody and use a lightsaber. I wonder if in the next two films Lucas will give us a reason for the darkside cave on Dagobah, I know they give one in HttE, but thats EU and not cannon. Maybe it has something to do with Vader some how becoming a Sith on Dagobah and the cave is where the "transformation" takes place.

finti
I think Obi-wan and Yoda goes into hiding at the end of ep3, this for protecting Luke and Leia. This way they will be able to help train either of the twins in the jedi`s ways. By hiding as presumably dead they have a chance to achieve this, and as we know they did.
About the cave at Dagobah, this scene was set up by Yoda because Luke chose to bring weapons in the cave. The cave was a test of Lukes alter fear. Whiteout weapons he just have to walk through it, with weapon he will facing his fear and a possible destiny. The cave was strong with the dark force, they showed Luke that following the dark side he might as well end up as Vader did.
Luke ended up with control of his fear after this incident, as Vader points out in their confrontation on Bespin.
"Obi-wan has taught you well, I see you can control your fear"

JediSith
Personally i think it had something to do with that cave. It's a little coincidental that our lil' buddy would pick a planet out of a hat and it happens to have a darkside infested cave on it.

~Also~

Luke seems to recognize Dagobah in ESB ("It's like something out of a Dream" he says to artoo after first landing)

Food for thought.

finti
Jedi`s have the ability to see the future in dreams and so on.
"the future is hard to see always in motion" -yoda ESB
Lukes feelings can also be explained as a form of dejavu
