King Jedi
The announcement of the title is 2 months early and most people seem to think it's so that Lucas can put the trailer either on the TPM DVD or release it with Apocalypes Now Redux. I can't wait!!! big grin

queeq
OOOOOOOH, the tension. I can't stand it!!!!! Could it... Would it....????????? AAAAARRRGGHHHHH, I must have it NOW!!!!

King Jedi
I hope you are talking about the trailer! rolling on floor laughing

Texas
But Apocolypse Now Redux is already playing in theaters so he cant put it in that, and I would think that TPM DVD's are already being produced, I doubt that the preview will be on the DVD.

queeq
But he could put it on the AN Redux DVD.... And I do hope they put it on the DVD, I expect it in the theatres and online by then.

King Jedi
I didn't know Apocalypse Now is in theatres. It's not here.

When the DVD was announced, the official site said "and more suprises on the way". Maybe it's on the DVD but it's just a suprise.

Texas
Yeah, AN Redux opened last Friday in the US, I wish the trailer would appear on TPM DVD, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Dim
Wouldn't the trailer show up in theaters before it became available as a DVD preview?..Come on guys..3 months..that's not a long time. laughing out loud

queeq
Don't take away our dreams, Dimmy. big grin

But shouldn't the teaser come out around October then? Like with TPM? I hope, I hope, I hope.

On the other hand, those LFL people say they can't release worldwide because they're working on the film all the way up to release, so dubbing is out of the question to release it everywhere at the same time. Maybe getting a trailer ready for the DVD is really pushing their deadlines.... Still hoping though.

King Jedi
If you watch the TPM trailer you can see that some of the shots weren't finished. When you first see Theed, the roofs of the buildings are different from what they are in the final film. There is other stuff like this and the sound is a bit different.

queeq
There was the missing reflection of Maul's sabre.

R.C
There's a rumour that we might have a DVD link to a restricted part of the Official Website where DVD owners can download the Trailer...

DVD Trailer Report

queeq
*GASP*

WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!! And you Brits have it first! AARRRRRRRRRRRGGGHH.

King Jedi
I didn't know that was possible. smile Are people here buying it on the net or in shops?

R.C
I'm gonna go buy it in the shops to ensure I have it on the 15th.

As to the technicalities of the restriction, I think they can do it by only allowing entry to users from a certain referrer.

To explain, when you click on a link, it is possible for the website you are entering to read the site that you came from. Therefore if they program dvd.starwars.com, or whatever the site is, to only allow entry to users who come from a link on the DVD then it should work.

queeq
I'm getting it from my video rental store. The guy who runs it sells DVD's with hardly any profit. I'll save some US$12 on that one, but I don't know if I'm getting it EXACTLY on October 17. Then again, I do save quite a bit on it and that's worth something right?

R.C
Normally I would, but if there is any chance of the trailer link, (Remember for a moment what my website specialises in!) then I HAVE to have a copy on the morning of the 15th...

Texas
I have a DVD Drive on my computer, and now many DVD's work with a program called PCFriendly, which interfaces the DVD with the internet. I guess they could do it that way, but that would only be available for people with DVDRoms. I think that GL wouldn't discrimintate against people who did not purchase the DVD and not allow them to see the trailer unless the purchase the DVD. I'm positive, that Lucas will release it in theaters and on his web site, so that everyone can see it. smile

queeq
Who knows. As I said before, it would be around the time that the trailer is to be released.

R.C
Tex, think like a marketing exec for a second...

I don't think I'm saying that they would with hold it, but if they gave DVD owners exclusive access, say a week before the rest, it would sure boost DVD sales.

sand person no. 10
within 1 hour though it would get put on a p2p file sharing software and so the point of exclusitivity would become pointless pretty quickly.

King Jedi
I think it would be good if they put the trailer out with Lord of the Rings. It would stop all the arguing between LotR and SW fans that the press have whipped up.

Texas
That would be soooo kewl! Not only would you see LOTR but the Episode 2 trailer too! That would really rock my tofu! Considering that LOTR is the most anticipated movie at the moment, and it will be the biggest grossing film of the year, It would smart for GL to release it then, more people would see the preview!

King Jedi
We'd have to wait until November/December though.

Texas
December 12 sad

sand person no. 10
december 12?

queeq
Too long. I need it sooner than that.

Texas
embarrasment Oppps! December 19. Sorry embarrasment

King Jedi
I would love it if it just appeared on T.V. You're sitting their eating your dinner and it just appears. I'd choke! smile

Texas
But then if you died you wouldn't be able to see Attack of the Clones sad ..................Hmmmm, well now that I think of it, one less person waiting in line means shorter line for me evil face

R.C
Maybe, but use of those facilities isn't as prevelant as some would have you believe.

I think it will happen.

sand person no. 10
that maybe so but it only takes 1 person to get a copy for it to be available to millions within minutes

R.C
I think "millions" is a bit of an overstatement. But anyway, the marketing men can't think like that.

Sure, it will be on the newsgroups, and on other sources, but that just helps LFL. They want hype, THAT will give them hype.

That is all that matters.

Dim
Good point..

I think RC might have missed his true calling laughing out loud

R.C
Not really, it's just a case of marketing is about one thing, raising awareness. All the hyoe does just that.

Supa
okay, going out on a limb here.. but but but... I distinctly seem to remember someone stating that SW wouldn't be released on DVD until all six movies were done? Is Phantom Menace due on DVD on a specific date?

finti
16th of October

King Jedi
15th for us! I think.

yerssot
Why are we always the last???

jedi212guy
I don't even have a DVD player. I guess I'm just SOL. sad

Texas
Oh, you have to get a DVD player, there just amazing! I dont even buy VHS tapes anymore, and after getting Tivo, I'm really thinking about throwing out my VCR! DVD's Rock!!! cool smokin'

jedi212guy
Thanks for the advice. big grin

R.C
I boaught my fist DVD player 6 weeks ago, but only becuause I new TPM was coming out on 15th October.

King Jedi
I got mine last year but I don't have a widescreen T.V and as most DVD's are in widescreen it's not as good.

R.C
Neither do I , but I just sit closer to the TV and ignore the black bars!

King Jedi
smile On some dvd machines you can switch the widescreen off. I still think I should be able to on mine.

R.C
But then you loose the image at both sides cos the DVD can't pan&Scan unless it has both the WS and P&S versions on one disk.

King Jedi
Don't most DVD's have that?

R.C
Not sure, none of mine do. Just W/S or P&S.

KDawg
My parents owe me $600 whenever they get it to me I'm going to Circuit City and picking me up the best DVD player I can find.

Ratcat
Just make sure you have a great TV to play it through else there's not a lot of point.

King Jedi
Circuit City? Where is that?

Ratcat
Circuit City are an American electrical retailers, kinda like Dixons or Curry's

queeq
I never mind the black bars myself. I've always loved having widescreenversions of films. Even of VHS, but on DVD it's much clearer and sharper.
I haven't got a WS tv either, I'm still in great doubt if I should get one. I mean, hardly any tv is made for WS and I hate cutting of heads or strectching people to fit the frame. And if I don't then I'd have to buy such a big WS tv to match the size of the one I have now, that I wouldn't have the space for. Dillemma!

Oh yerssot, we don't have to wait too long, just one day: it's being released in the Benelux on OCtober 17. With a little luck I can have it the day or two days before though, when they ship it. I got Hannibal on DVD two days before official release as well. So here's hoping!!

yerssot
You don't get it huh???
1 day is 24hours, that is again 24 hours!!!
I can't wait another 24hours!!!!
I want the DVD NOW!!!!
Not 24 hours later!!!

NERVOUS BREAKDOWN!!!!

King Jedi
laughing out loud I was getting wierd images of Circiut City. Like something out of Blade Runner.

Ratcat
According to a report of TF.N yesterday, the DVD release for Benelux has been brought foprward to the 16th, and the UK has been put back to the 16th. This is according to Amazon.Com who mailed all the pre-order customers to tell them.

Texas
Wide screne rules. You see exactly what the director and cinematographer intend for you to see. It's the best and as far as I'm concerned only way to watch movies. Widescreen TV's are great but not exactly necessary, it's just a little better and less 'black space', and their so damn expensive $2,000-$4,000 for a good SONY! sad

queeq
To the 16TH????!!! YIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Yes, I know KJ. But I was taking about most tv-porgrammes being aired on the 4:3 ratio. Wide screen tv sucks for that. Usually smaller and lots of black space on the sides if you hate stretching and cutting off heads like I do.

Ratcat
There's gradually more and more WS for TV coming along, especially with the advent of digtal TV.

KDawg
I don't have the money or the space for a widescreen TV. sad

queeq
Okay. Here's a tip then: Don't buy one. big grin

KDawg
laughing out loud Good advice. laughing out loud

queeq
You're welcome. big grin
