So I can test my Pokemon games' combat mode, it will be disguised as a newly built Combat Arena in Palet Town, where all of the players currently live. Soon they will be receiving their first Pokemon, but before they do, they might want to know how to fight with Pokemon!

The Pokemon in the Combat Arena are all trained to obey whoever borrows them for the training session, but they are also trained not become attached to them. They are all in their first evolution, and none of them...erm...legendary, such as Mew or Articunos. And they are all found in Pokemon versions Blue, Red, Yellow, & Green.

This is how the combat works. The trainers that own the Combat Arena will use an example combat using Charizard and Blastoise.

When it comes to Pokemon vs. Pokemon combat, the trainer goes into first person mode, as if you were the Pokemon.

Here it goes...

Trainers May and Percy will be fighting.

"I choose you Blastoise!" May hollers, throwing her Pokeball onto the small battlefield.

"Go, Charizard!" Percy orders, opening his Pokeball.

Arcs of white light jump from the balls and lands on the field, forming the Pokemon's massive builds.

May challenged Percy, therefore her Blastoise goes first. This battle does not factor in health or power points.

Also, try to be creative in your combat! Unlike the game, where it is "I move, you move," there are more things that factor into it.

Sure! You can challenge May or Percy, the owners of the Combat Arena, or you can fight one of the other players.

Also, after we get some of the Pokemon combat down, we'll move to gun combat. Team Rocket isn't going to let you go so easily after you smack down their Pokemon!

ok, sounds great. i might fumble up a bit, but not too much. also, my character, poor little karly, doesn't have a gun, so what should i do?

use a stick

i was thinking slingshot, but that's ok. either that, or tranquilizer gun. but, i don't want karly to have a gun.

she could have a tazer *shrugs* but a slingshot does sound ok

You don't need a gun at all. Just a neat thing. You'll have to stay behind the others when Team Rocket pulls out some guns, though. Plus, Pokemon vs. Humans is another combat form! Psychic Pokemon like Mewtwo, especially Mewtwo, can stop bullets with Psyhic.

and bullets are even going to effect steel pokemon right?

they will, but not very much. and isn't it affect cuz it's a verb? effect is a noun.

i'm not sure

VERY little effect on Steel Pokemon, if any at all. If a steel-type Pokemon was being fired upon with an M-16 or a sniper rifle and uses a defensive special (Defense Curl, Harden, etc.), it will do nothing but patter off. Rock Pokemon can do similar, but will have some damage.

May and Percy look at you all curiously.

"Are you going to train with the Pokemon, or not?"

NOTICE: I'm opening a help thread, for quick references and such. What types are super effective against others, combat modes, etc.

Of course you can. That's the whole point of the Combat Arena, practicing.

Each Pokemon is level 10, but they have been taught TMs to determine what they use. They have set moves that cannot change, so you'll have to get used to them. The Pokemon you have out will have it's special attacks listed...

Ember
Agility
Bite
Fire Blast

Tptmanno1's Pokemon: Machop
Special Attacks:
Low Kick
Leer
Karate Chop
Seismic Toss

Also, physical attacks that are Fighting-type are considered special attacks. So are Normal-type moves, but they are basically just a slightly more powerful version of a normal tackle.

That I did, Tptmanno. It'll be your second Pokemon on the list then.

Your borrowed Pokemon fly out of their Pokeballs, the energy sparking as it touches the ground and forms the muscular figure of Machop and the furry figure of Growlithe.

"Growl..." your Growlithe mutters, glaring at the Machop.

Machop says nothing and does a pose, ready for combat.

Alright, your attacks please!

tpt goes first, right?

ill start it off with..
"machop LOW KICK!"

"Growlithe, dodge the low kick"

Growlithe jumped over the low kick.

"Good, now use agility, then ram into him."

"Machop use sismic toss and grab him before he hits you and toss him high in the air!"

Growlithe came to in midair.

"Growlithe shoot a fireblast at Machop, then use agility to catch yourself on the ground."

Well, close you guys. Growlithe would actually be going first.

Also, if you guys are the trainers, your Pokemon are controlled by me. aka NPCs.

Also, I'll use your combat as an example.

Machop uses Low Kick.

Then, Growlithe dodges.

Then I say the results of the dodge and the kick, and then it is Growlithe's turn to attack.

oh so it's my turn now?

"Growlithe, use ember"

right?

Good, now Tptmanno's Machop needs to defend. You can dodge, at most.

Anything specific about that dodge?

Remember, you can play as the Pokemon in first person, but you cannot say "I punched and blew up a wall." You say stuff like "I punch at the Growlithe's face, right side." etc.

"I Gathered all of my mushles in my legs, and made a tremendous leap up and to the left"

There we go. Now I would make my analysis.

Growlithe spits the embers out at high speeds, and Machop just barely avoids with that tremendous leap! An ember nicks his leg, for 2 damage.

Pokemon all have a health total of 30, no matter what.

Machop's health is now 28.

Machop to Attack, Growlithe to Defend

"Growlithe, get yourself ready for his next more." Kyle screamed

"I relaxed my body and styed nimble so i could dodge whatever machop was going to throw at me."

"Karate chop at the base of his neck"

"I land, and immediatly rush forward to chop directly at Growliths neck"

I need your defense, TF...

"Growlithe, prepare to dodge"

"I got up on my toes and prepare myself to doge machop's attack."

um, are we still playing this game?

oh rex, it seems like the battle system takes to long, i have an idea, why not just referee the battles, instead of doing an anaylsis after every turn.

Just remember whenever you challengew someone, you have to lose the first battle - then go find out something new, preferably from the person you are challenging's dad, or other relative :P

Then win!

ok no offense captain rex, but this game moves way to slow, to be fun. Maybe we should just drop this battle style and go on to anime style...

ya know what, i forgot that this was the regular, i think i might make a pokemon rp in the unhosted

well, with the holidays going on and all, i think it would be wiser to wait until after everything subsides to start it up.
i dunno what rex'll say but thats my opinion.
