has anyone seen this movie cus its great. the acting by depp especially was great, benicio del toro was pretty good too. also has anyone read anything by Hunter S. Thompson, who the movie was based on, cus i just bought his book Hell's Angels and was wondering if anybody knew anything about it.

Julie
nope never heard of it

GordonSkywalker
What is it about? And are you referring to Johnny Depp? He is a good actor, but I have not heard of this film.

desilu
yeah it is Johnny Depp and its one of his best films in my opinion. here's kind of a synopsis of the movie : We were somewhere on the edge of the desert when the drugs took hold," explains the stoned and wild-eyed journalist Raoul Duke. He speeds along like an out-of-control missile in the opening to FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS, which is based on the famous semi-autobiographical novel by Hunter Thompson about his gonzo journalism. Set in a stoned-out 1971, the movie's central character, Raoul, and his sidekick and attorney, Dr. Gonzo, spend the entire picture ripped, stoned, plastered, wasted, you name it. With a cornucopia of drugs in the trunk of their rented Cadillac convertible, they are on their way to Las Vegas, where they will cover the national convention of District Attorneys, among other things. Mainly they are going so they can party using every illegal substance you've ever heard of and some you haven't.

ToMacco
"I feel a bit light headed, maybe you should drive" Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us. And the sky was filled with, what looked like huge vampire bats. All soaring and screeching and swooping around the car. And suddenly you hear a voice cry out "Holy Jesus! What are these god damn animals?"

"Did you say something"

"Never mind." No point in mentioning these bats, I thought. The poor bastard would see them soon enough.

ToMacco
"Those bastards have changed the lock!"

"Already?!?"

There are so many great quotes from this movie. I use them every day.

desilu
anybody else have any opinions on this movie

ToMacco
Del Toro is all whacked out on drugs and starts to freak out.

"Look, there's two women f**king a polar bear!"

Then Del Toro says "Don't tell me those things. Not now, man."

desilu
i also thought it was funny that they put a merry-go-round around a bar, just what a drunk person needs to face, a moving floor

queeq
I personally find it Gilliam's weakest movie. It's not bad and Depp is excellent as always.... but the movie just doesn't do it for me. The weird thing about it is that halfway the movie you begin to feel stoned yourself, that is quite an accomplishment.
So, not Gilliam's best, but interesting nonetheless.

duffy
Yeah the movies great!!
everylines a great quote!!

desilu
what other movies has Gilliam made? and which ones are his better ones?

Corran
Twelve Monkeys - excellent
Time bandits - OK
Monty Python films and TV series - all most excellent.
Jabberwocky - Hmmm not OK.
Brazil - good
The fisher king - good

Thomas H
hmm

Brith
Corran - you missed the Adventures of the so-called Baron Munchausen

Corran
Yes Brith I did so on purpose, not a lot of people would know of this German Film.

desilu
how was brasil? and what was it about? also was there a character in the Adventures of the so-called Baron Munchausen played by one of the monty python people, i forgot his name, but in the movie he could run extremely fast? I think i saw part of that movie if its the one i'm thinking about.

ToMacco
Backdoor Beauty ?

littlepurplemen
does anyone know where i can get a copy of the movie script for fear and loathing in las vegas? if so can you send me a copy?

p.s.
"look, there's two women f*****g a polar bear!"

i liked the movie because it reminded me of my younger days.... that's what happens when you push you mind out to the farthest places in your sub-conscience... and special k (not the cereal) will make you walk like they did in the movie

turdmuppet
isn't special k a horse tranquilizer?
if you wanna walk like that drink 3 glasses of absolut

Tired Hiker
Fear and Loathing was a great flick, the book is even better. IF YOU LIKED THE MOVIE YOU WILL LOVE THE BOOK. I read it in three days and I wished it wouldn't end.

ahaetrkarykl
i love fear and loathing in las vegas. it is so good and soooo funny and quoteable, and its about more than just being on acid. i just love it. awesome book too

JackSparrowLuvr
I luv benicio del toro and johnny depp!!!!

drumsgirl13
"what the- what the **** are we doing out here in the middle of the desert? somebody called the police, we need help. we need help! (beeps horn)" lol!

one of my favorite movies, and even though johnny depp played a drug-addict, he still was sexy.

Seraph
this movie is crazy!!!! laughing out loud laughing out loud laughing out loud
but it rocks.
depp is that funny with his cigarette-thing and his freaky haircut big grin
and del toro is coooooooooool!!!!!!!!!!!!
has anyone seen Traffic?
Great too.

drumsgirl13
traffic was good too. that was a good movie.

Octopornopus
EDIT
... only one quote from the movie shall do:
"Better get some golf shoes, this muck is impossible to walk through. GOD DAMNIT, TELL ME ABOUT THE GOLF SHOES!"
{Oh, and uh,yeah, no offense was meant towards those of you who did like it, but to that one guy..
EDIT

ahaetrkarykl
i love this movie. nothing makes you laugh harder than johnny depp and benicio del toro on acid.

i love when gonzo grabs that knife from under the mattress and kinda trips with it and you can hear it slicing the air, and duke says something like "wholey jesus man where'd you get that big f***er"

such a quotable movie. some people really dont like it though, which i can see because you have to have a special sense of humor at times to really appreciate all the jokes. the special edition of fear and loahting is a good buy. lots of special features

Kes
Octopornopus take it easy. Not everybody likes the same thing.

DeNiro
ive watched like ten minutes of this movie so far and it is great. very funny actully histirical and johhny depp is in it and wow what stoners these guys r has ne one seen this movie so far i luv it i was jiust wondering if ne one else found it as funny laughing out loud WE CANT STOP HERE this is bat country hahahaha someone from KMC has a sig with the picture of johhny with his big sun glasses on and his cigrett with the holder in his mouth and underneath it saying this is bat country i never got it till now laughing out loud

ragesRemorse
i saw this movie about five years ago while on an over abundance of acid, It was funny then, and it's still pretty funny now. Unless you are on drugs it does tend to get repetitive, but in a watchable way. GOOD movie. "I want you to throw that in the tub at the peak of the whit rabbit" LOL

Sugar Kane
Spoiler!!!!

Fantastic, trippy movie!!! I love the bit where Benicio Del Toro carves a Zorro 'Z' into JD's forehead while he's passed out! zorro Crazy! Love it! Have to see it again soon I think. laughing

ragesRemorse
yeah that was great lol. I liked when depp's character awakes wearing a dinosaur tail.. LOL total madness...i havent seen a movie to desribe a bad acid trip as correctly as fear and loathing LOL

Caribbean_Chick
omg that movie sounds so funni.. i've heard of the title be4 but.. are u guys saying its about a bunch of stoners?

forumcrew
very funny movie.. even if uve never done a drug in your life youll feel like u have after watching this

forumcrew
and no its not about a bunch of stoners like your thinking.. they are far beyond stoners

mook
its the ultimate film to watch while under the influence of the drug of your choice.

duffy
I love this film so much, i can watch it over and over!

"There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die."

Im off to watch it again now! Second time today! lol

Sugar Kane
I'm glad that this film is getting the recognition that it deserves from us lot! big grin

sumunabeech
Although this isn't really a stoner movie, they're not much beyond stoners.
Thompson is out to get fvcked up, and succeeds.
I did like the desert scene though.

DeNiro
I was right in the middle of a fu*ckin reptile zoo....

and some damn fool was giving these things booze.

laughing out loud i luv this movie it is fantstic.

we had two bags of grass, 75 pounds of mescoline, half salt shaker of coke, some uppers downers laughers screamers quart of rum bottle of ta-key-la case of beer and 2 dozen marbles. sure we didnt need this but hy its vegas. i think i might buy this movie

Sugar Kane
I'm glad you liked it, DeNiro! Shows you got great taste! I got a feeling you'd be someone who likes The Big Lebowski, too...am I right? big grin

DeNiro
oo god the big Lebowski i havent seent that in forever but it is a classic.

whats another great movie like them i am going to think

Sugar Kane
See...The Big Lebowski is just too great for words! big grin

Someone with such fine taste as yourself should also appreciate such movies as This is Spinal Tap and Rushmore...although I feel less certain about these...

Sugar Kane
You should also love Ed Wood...I'd be disappointed if you didn't...

duffy
You should try way of the gun and withnail and i, two other great films that i cant get enough of

Sugar Kane
I watched The Way of the Gun when it first came out, and I didn't particularly like it at the time; but I remember this one funny bit that I kept watching over and over, on a loop...The bit where Ryan Phillipe jumps over a wall to take cover from gunfire...and he lands on a bunch of broken glass- you don't see it...but you hear it! Hilarious!! laughing

duffy
lol yeah that was pretty funny, i didnt really like it first time but watched it again and loved it! Probably one of the best openings to a film ever!
Anyone no if theres a special edition Fear and loathing DVD out?

burlyman
thumb upsmile this film is goooooooooooooood

DeNiro
omg rushmore is just one of my favorite movies it is fantastic if u dont like rushmore then u suck. my favorite line in that movie is when they r out at dinner and he goes

I like ur nurses uniform guy.

o these r our OR scrubs

O R they

then bill murry almost chokes

that was classic movie is histircal

Sugar Kane
See! big grin I know everything! stick out tongue

I like the letter that Dirk writes to Max...you know the one I mean... evil face laughing

Sugar Kane
If you are in the USA, on Region One there are two versions available- including the Criterion Edition, which is amazing, from what I've read...if you are elsewhere, in the UK like me, for example, and sucky region two...we haven't even got a crappy vanilla edition... mad It is one of many great movies that are completely unavailable on dvd over here. Goddammit!!!!! sad I need to get my player converted to multi-region I think...

Sugar Kane
Another Rushmore scene I love is where Bill Murray is in his Bentley with his two sons and they turn the air conditioning on full blast!! Cracks me up everytime!! eek! And then when they tell him to "Blow it out your ass!" and he kind of attacks them...too many great scenes...
laughing

DeNiro
Another great part is when Max is up in the tower thing with his bb gun and the irish guy walks past and he shoots him in his ear and he goes

id of shot u in ur other ear but it got blown away a long time ago laughing out loud

or when the dorky kids / bill murrys sons r locking and unlocking the door when he wants to get in and he is like OPEN ITTT. omg i crack up everytime i see that movie.

hey Sugar Kane do u like the movie super troopers cause i think ne one who hasnt seen that movie should go see it its a fing riot

Tired Hiker
"There is nothing more inrresponsible or depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge."

JD as Hunter S. Thompson in one of the best Terry Gilliam films ever made.

Sugar Kane
Agreed, and one of JD's best roles... big grin

I haven't seen 'Super Troopers', I haven't even heard of it! Is it a new release? Who is in it?

Sugar Kane
And just imagine how great Don Quixote would have been...it could have been so amazing- JD and Terry Gilliam together again! sad I pray that it will be finished one day...

duffy
yeah what was done of it looked amazing

Sugar Kane
Hmm...somehow, I don't think this was an accident...

CaptainSparrow
Can you only buy the Region 1 version of this movie on dvd? I wanna buy it!

SeptemberRain
THat is such a great film. Johnny Depp does a perfect job of impersonating Hunter S.Thompson.

Cinemaddiction
Bravo was looping it late last night, and I was just mesmorized by it, although I've got it on DVD.

Inspired me to make a sig pic for it, even.

furryman
Love the film, when I get some money I'm gonna get the book big grin

Drumdude1167
Based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson, brings you into the hypnotic world of a so called "Doctor of Journalism". This movie stars Johnny Depp( that should say it all that its a great movie) and Bencio Del toro( there you go) and also including an all star cast of cameos like Cameron Diez, and Cristina ricci, and Gary Busey. If you have seen this movie, tell me what you think, if you liked it, please tell me your favorite part, if you didn't, please tell me what you thought was wrong with me. If you never saw it, i hope this thread will persuade you to see it, i completely WANT YOU TO SEE THIS F*CKED UP MOVIE WITH CRAZY LIZARD PEOPLE AND MONKEYS

botankus
You have obviously not seen River's Edge.

Drumdude1167
ok well i would like to say that this is honestally the best movie ever, now whats the movie about JD doing hunter s thompson, i would like to see that movie

Ou Be Low hoo
'Fear And Loathing in LV' is a wonderfully absurd movie...Watching it is like taking some hallucinogens. It's also very faithful to the book. If you haven't read the book, do so...You'll find yourself reading it like Hunter/Depp narrates the movie.

RIP ( Rest In Party) Hunter, they don't make them like you anymore...

baracustastic
Crazy movie, Depp is brilliant, Del Torro is just weird.

Crackin'

Sadako of Girth
I know...!!! eek! It was totally uncanny...!!!
Easily on of the best character imitation-performances ever.
That was the first role that cemented my opinion of him as a seriously good actor as aposed to wussy girly-poster-boy......

Revernd Maynard
I really enjoyed this movie..and the music was great too in it
