Bail Organa

Jedimaster3838
I was under the impression that Organa would play a large role in the next film but Jimmy Smits said other wise. In an interview that his character played only a small part but that he loved the honor. Now is this Lucas's doing trying to throw the fans off? Or is this true?

Xizor
I was also under the impression that Bail would play a large role, kinda of like Solo in ANH. Lucas hinted he'd come in as the been there done that loose cannon and veteran, who compliments the refined/reserved Queen and the brash/youthful Anakin(like the Han, Leia and Luke trio). However I think that OB1 kinda took over that role, and Lucas(who originally wanted to cast an energetic unknown in his late 20's, like Ford) diminished the role of 44 year old screen veteran Smits b/c Ob1's role grew from what he originally intended it to be. Weather this means Kenobi will be involved in some sort of love triangle, like Leia, Luke and Han were in the second film, remains to be seen. I hope not though, as the love scenes should be kept as a simplified backstory,as they were in ESB.

Darth Daft
Thats how I want the love scenes to be too, but I don't think they will be. I think love will play a huge role on Anakin's life and it seems it won't just be him in love. Owen and Beru might also fall in love in Episode 2 rather than already be married and like possible rumours suggest, Amidala and Bail may fall in love after Anakin has turned to the Dark Side.

Ratcat
I think, though I can not substantiate this, that Smits has done Episode-II to introduce Bail Organa as he will have much bigger role in Episode-III.

This is why I don't think we will see the Clone wars in Episode-II unless they start right at the end of the film.

Dim
I think if we see that conference on Malastare we might see the event leading up to and the start of the war..

queeq
I doubt Bail will marry Amidala. Remember Luke asking Leia in ROTJ: "Do you remember your mother. Your REAL mother." That indicates Leia had a foster mother, which then should be Bail's wife and thus someone else than Amidala/Padme.

And I too believe Bail will have a bigger role in Ep3 as the Clone Wars will probably start somewhere at the end of Ep2. Another quote to substantiate Bail's importance DURING the Clone Wars: "General Kenobi, years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars." That's when things will pick up that will put Palpy on the throne and where Bail's importance in the Clone Wars and consequently the Rebellion will increase.

queeq out

King Jedi
That's a good point. Nobody has mentioned who Leia's foster mum is.

Ratcat
One story that I heard in the past was that leia's real mother (Padme) served as a lady in waiting (handmaiden) to the foster mother in order to be near her child but was killed or died at some point.

Anyway, this would link in with Padme's modus operandi of taking on a role as a handmaiden to hide and protect herself.

Dim
That whole scenerio just makes me really said...which is good...but not really..you know what I mean.

Darth Daft
I think I read somewhere that the Clone Wars have already begun during the course of TPM. But we won't see any of it until the Jedi take part in it. So while watching TPM you can think to yourself, "Ooh, the Clone Wars are taking place somewhere out there." Isn't that nice....

Ratcat
I think the Clone Wars will kick off in EpII, around 1 hour into the movie.

queeq
Just like that, eh? I wonder... it might be closer to the end really, so much of the Clone Wars can take place between Episodes.

queeq out

Ratcat
No, not "just like that." I think the film will start off with crisises in many places that will begin to escalate. I don't thonk our heroes will become really involved immnediatey though. This may be the cliff hanger ending.

Darth Daft
The Clone Wars will be taking place throughout all of the movie but does not come to any importance until maybe half way through like Ratcat said. I think perhaps the Sith will get involved with a certain group in the war (Mandalores?) and this will therefore cause the Jedi to get involved and so the Clone Wars will become a much larger more important event in the Galaxy.

Ratcat
As DD says. To expand on what I said earlier. I think they will almost be considered inconsequential as they start but then rapidly escalate, dragging in more and more planets and people.

queeq
Why would it be going on? Aren't we supposed to find out what the clones are for, why they are being used instead of battle droids and all. The storyboards showed some super battle droids. They obviously don't make it into the Empire, so that's where the clones come in, I think. And then something must go wrong with these clones or there should be some major resistance against clones and that will have to escalate first. I don't think the Clone Wars are going on somewhere in Ep2, I think Ep2 will show how they start.

queeq out

Ratcat
Incidently, they probably won't be called "The Clone Wars" in Episode-II. Most wars in history that have started small and escalate aren't named until they are well under way or sometimes once they are over.

queeq
Good call, Ratcat. But the cause of these wars have to develop first and I think that's what ep2 will show.

queeq out

Ratcat
That's it exactly. I think we're on to nsomething here. Mr Lucas, are you listening.

queeq
Eerrrr.... what are we on exactly?

queeq out

Ratcat
The clone wars, oh do try to keep up. smile

queeq
Sorry, massa.

I know we're talking about Clone Wars, but what exactly are we unraveling that Lucas is supposed to know.or was that more of that hidden cynical humour of yours. You'll have to excuse me, someone appropraitely nicknamed me queeq the Gullible.

queeq out

Ratcat
Touche!

Well basically how, when, where, why and who.

queeq
But what are we on to? Or did I miss something again?

queeq out

Ratcat
I don't know, I'm kind of a little lost now.

I think we've got to.

Clone Wars won't be called the clone wars in itially.
They start in Episode-II at some point but are rather small to begin.
They escalate and the Jedi become involved towards the end of EpII.

queeq
Okay, never mind then.

I agree with things we have so far. Let's go from there.

*shakes head*

queeq out

Ratcat
OK, time to get DEFINATIVE!!!

In the new Episode-II feature on Original Trilogy re-re-release George Lucas states that the Clone Wars start in EPISODE-II and that Anakin finally turns to the darkside in EPISODE-III.

I guess that's pretty conclusive.

queeq
Yep. Read that. It's pretty much what the clever ones among us have been saying all along. Ep2 shows how the Clone Wars get started. Most of it will probably take place between episodes. This way Anakin can show what a great hero he is and whu he is the greatest star fighter pilot that ever lived. And THAT is we he cannot turn until Ep3. Thank you, George Lucas, for clearing that up.

queeq out

Darth Daft
Do you think we will even see the Clone Wars end? Perhaps they continue after Episode 3 and dont finish until maybe 10 years in between Ep 3 and 4.

Ratcat
We may do, I believe that it is the clone ways that Palpatine uses as his justification for the Storm troopers. Ironic huh?

Jedimaster3838
I think that we will see the Clone Wars end. They will obviously start in Episode II and I think end at the beginning of Episode III, Anakin will be some big hero that ends the war and his head becomes big, and he thinks OB1 is jealous or something, creating a further rift between them.

Ratcat
Wasn't the a quote from Rick McCallum about Anakins fall being the result of what happens when someopne thinks they are better than they really are?

queeq
I think we will see the Clone Wars end as well. And that quote can refer to things happening during the wars. something will happen that will cause a rift between OB1 and Anakin. If this quote refers to OB1 then I have grave doubts about his status as hero in the saga, though. Won't he be the ultimate loser then?

queeq out

Ratcat
Yay! Anakin goes in with all the bravado like "Hey, I'm the chosen one, I can't die, there's a prophesy you know."

Obi Wan is all like "Hey, chill Ani, don't be such a hot head."

Ani comes back with "Shove it you hasbeen, I'm gona stick my saber up your..."

Well, you get the idea.

queeq
You obviously had a peek into the new script. Do you know more? At least the dialogue has improved smile

queeq out

Darth Daft
I agree with this Anakin thing. It is his own goodness that makes him bad if you get what I mean. He is TOO good and he takes advantages of his powers by using the Force for evil.

queeq
No, I don't get that. I can imagine him being very good in the sense that he is a very good pilot and a great Jedi. But I believe he gets disappointed in people, like Jedi, his master, Padme. And probably not always justified. His desires for goodness and justice may bring him to the point that he wants revenge for what injustice has been done unto him. He is not seeing things straight, though. His anger will blind him.

queeq out

Darth Daft
Hmmm...yes, possibly. What I meant was that Anakin is so good that it makes him big-headed and egostatical. He believes he is to good to turn to the Dark Side and so he is not careful with the joices he makes, believing that nothing bad can happen to him because he is the Chosen One. However, he doesn't think before he makes decisions and this ultimately leads to him doing wrong things and eventually fighting Obi-Wan and joining Palpatine.

Ratcat
DD, I think queeg has a point.

Also though I think that there may even be some relation to his past and the way he left Tatooine.

What I mean is that telling a 10 year old he's the "Chosen One" is bound to make him a little big headed. Nopw I canb't recall a scene where it is mentioned to him directly in TPM, but I sure bet it comes up sometime in his training.

Darth Daft
I agree. They should just treat him like a normal Jedi and just try to forget that he's the Chosen One. That way, destiny may have taken place easily coz Anakin wouldn't have become so over-confident with his powers.

Ratcat
I think they will, but once he has that thought in his head, it's there to reek havok!

Darth Daft
"The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded." Ok I guess that doesn't quite connect with how Anakin uses the Force, but ya never know, Obi-Wan probably gains all those knowledgable lines from his past adventures.

Jedi Mercenary
damn those people at Lucasfilm for casting Jimmy Smits!!

queeq
REEK havok? What does that smell like? LOL

DD and RC, I think we are agreeing on it. Anakin could indeed get a little too bold for his size. If he finds himself so great and good, that means if someone like Ob1 has a different opinion Anakin might feel wronged. Maybe both arrogance and anger will blind him. And arrogance first.

queeq out

Ratcat
<DD, queeg and RC sit down to smokem biggum peace pipe>

Merc, what wrong with Jimmy Smits? I'm kinda open minded
about him have never watched NUPD Blue or anything else with
him in for that matter.

Does he suck that bad?

Darth Daft
I've never seen him either, but he won emmy awards or something,
so he can't be considered a bad actor.

Ratcat
Really? I wonder how he'll do?

Darth Daft
There's hardly been any info on him at all. Everyone's seemed
to have taken little notice of him. I wonder if the official
magazine or site will interview him and he may give away little
hints about his part.

Jedi Mercenary
Jimmy Smits is too old

Dim
For what?...He's no older than Liam Neeson, Alec Guiness and Chris Lee...what could you think he's too old for?...you don't even know what he'll be doing characterwise in the movie..

Jedimaster3838
Yeah, I don't see why he's too old. He should be about the same age as Obi-Wan(mid 30's) and thats close to what Smits looks like. In the OT he had to be in his 50's. I really don't have a problem with Smits, on his tv shows he did a good job.

Dim
He'll do fine...(plus he's cute smile )

queeq
Cute? Hmmmm, is that your type?

queeq out

Darth Daft
He looks anorexic from what I've seen of him.

Jedi Mercenary
soory, yet again, another drinking fest turned me into a goomba

Darth Daft
George Lucas looks anorexic.

Jedi Mercenary
Uma Thurman's anorexic

Dim
Huh?...anorexic?...I don't think any of them are....

And queeq, you know my type...I don't think he really fits it...almost...but he's not goofy big grin

Jedi Mercenary
am I your type Dim??

queeq
I don't think you are, JediMercenary, you're being a little too pushy. Ratcat's more her type, I think smile .

queeq out

Ratcat
Hmmmmm..... big grin

I wish I could be anorexic, just for about 8 weeks or so....

queeq
Dim won't mind that. She cares for personality....

PffffffffffffWooooohahahahhahahahahaha

queeq out

Dim
Hey!!! laughing out loud
I don't want any scrawny guys...they break too easily..

now, back on topic stick out tongue

Ratcat
Excuse me, but how did this start and on what basis???

Darth Daft
I think Dim said she thought Jimmy Smits was attractive and then a short discussion revealed that she likes you the most out of the forum members.
But then I wouldn't trust me because I'm a crazy squirel-eating maniac who nobody likes except for Princess Leia coz I married her during the fifth season of the Roman egg thrower.

Ratcat
That must have been before someone deleted the discussion because i can't see it.....

Oh and BTW;

PLEASE!!!!!! GET REAL OUT THERE PEOPLE!!!!

Darth Daft
Sorry, it's quite late here on Juicy Beaver World - Err, I mean England.

Ratcat
Don't I know it, and my heating has turned off so I'm freezing. If I could just drag my self to the bathroom and hit the control I could be nice and cosy again. smile

Only 43 minutes until a brand new day. smile

Darth Daft
Half an hour left and there'll only be - what - 34 days till Christmas? I can't wait. I wish I could get Obi-Wan for my PC though. That doesn't come out till Spring next year though. Dang.

Ratcat
It's not coming out at all now.

TFN just posted up a report, confirmed by Lucasarts that OB1 for the PC has been permenantly SHELVED. They will now develop it for a "New Generation Console" only, but have not said which. I reckon they've signed a deal with Nintendo for the Cube or something which gives Nintendo the exclusioves on it???

Darth Daft
Really? Double Dang!
Perhaps it will be released on the X-Box. It's probably easier to port it onto that.

Ratcat
Apparently there's not much to port at ths point, all those screen shots didn't have much to back them up in the way of solid programming. sad

queeq
That really sucks! I have been waiting for a sequel to Dark Forces for so long. I mean, The Phantom Menace game was fun, but not half as great as Dark Forces. So now we have to wait another two years before they develop something else.

Triple dang!

queeq out

Ratcat
I assume yopu mean Dark Force II. Did you play both the original DF2 abd the Mara JAde add on?

Dim
Obi-Wan's been cancelled for the PC...and RC, why in the world were you yelling?

queeq
Yelling? I don't get that...

Yes, RC I played all of them... several times. Of course I meant DFII. A sequel is a sequel, after all. And I know they proceed for PS2, but I don't have that and I had no intentions of buying a machine like that just for playing games. I like fooling myself with a PC by thinking that you can also do other things with it, aside from gaming.

queeq out

Ratcat
Exactly. I have a N64, but we only bought it recently from my son cos he loves playing Pokemon.

I haven't found a game yet that didn't look better on a PC with a decent 3d card, cpu and memory.

Only problem witha PC is that I can't find a controller that I like.

I know for a fact that I will not by a console just because one game is only available on it.

I'm willing to bet that OB1 will make it onto the PC after it's console debut.

Dim, OK, so I was stressed, what can I say. wink

queeq
You could say: forgive me, pleeeeeeaaaaaaaaaasee!

Well, I guess I'll have to wait until my kids are older and buy a PS2 for them as an excuse. hehehehe.

queeq out

Ratcat
Well mine's only 4! But then he has his own PC too. And I tell you something, a PII300 with 256MB fam and a 4MB ATI rage plays the Teletubbies game really well. laughing out loud

queeq
My oldest is 2,5 years old and plays Teletubbies too. Well, I play it and he watches. Especially the little films. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Hope he masters the mouse soon.

queeq out

Ratcat
Just the right age for a PS2 I would say. smile

queeq
Oh come on. I'm trying too keep him away from the television set as much as I can. 15 minutes a day, tops. he is very fond of books and reading. I prefer him to do that and not turn into a TV- and gamesjunkie like his dad. smile

queeq out

Ratcat
Fair comment, looks like you face the same parental dilemas<sp> that I do. Oh I feel so less alone.

Dim
I fear you two are fighting a losing battle..

queeq
We may lose the battle, but I won't lose the war... yet.

And thanks for your confidence Dim. Talking from experience?

queeq out

Dim
Nope, I just mean that it's natural for kids to be enthralled with media...either way I'm sure you guys will raise great kids smile

queeq
Yeah, yeah, yeah. First you put us down and then you suck up smile

Nice try but no cigar smile smile smile smile

queeq out

Darth Daft
I have no kids yet, but I'm only 20 so I can wait a while still. I'd rather travel the world before I start my own family.

queeq
So you have all these wonderful stories to tell by the fire? Pursue your dream, hope you succeed. If you don't do it now, you will be a lot older when you get another shot at it. (Boy, do I sound like an old fart smile )

queeq out

Ratcat
It's true. By the time my children are legally able to look after themselves I will be 50!!! That is depressing. But it Ben is anything to go by I will have 2 kids to be proud of.

Darth Daft
I wanna be the wise man of my family when I'm old. Kind of like this wise old shaman that everyone looks up to.

Jedi Mercenary
(cough,close this topic, cough)

Ratcat
No mods til Monday, unless UBH or Raz pop up.

I think this line of discussion has reached a messy conclusion though. smile

queeq
No Mods?! Wow, let's boost this thread up to 150 posts. This is the time for rebellion! Join me and together we will rule episodeii.co.uk...

queeq out

Ratcat
Actually episodeii.co.uk is a completely different site. This is Episode-ii.co.uk.

One little hyphen can make a lot of difference.

Anyway, I think boosting posts like that will just upset things.

I move that we try an get all topics back on track or abandon the ones that have hopelessly lost the point and start some new ones.

queeq
Oh, you're no fun anymore...

queeq out

Ratcat
Well, you know me, just trying to keep Dim happy... smile

queeq
Yes, I noticed that, how keen you are to keep her happy. I thought you were married... smile

queeq out

Jedi Mercenary
IF THIS POST GOES TO 150 I'M GONNA SCREAM!!

Darth Daft
Well there's only another 51 posts to go then. Size matters not.

Ratcat
100 POSTS!!!!

queeg, yes I'm married, what's that go to do with anyth..... Ah, I see what you're saying. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT="erm">

Somehow I don't think Dim would be overly impressed with the implication...

Anyways, you'll never make 150. Raz or UBH are bound to stick the head around the metaphorical door at some point this weekend and that will put an end to you little operation real fast. smile

Darth Daft
Well I guess, if you had the time, someone could just keep posting over and over again, post after post. That would work. But they'd probably be told off.

Ratcat
They'd probably end up with a time ban on this forum too.

queeq
They're not THAT strict are they. Besides, it's NOT a "little operation", we just continue posting in the threads we like. I can't help it that no mods are around and I didn't make the "no more than one hundred posts to a thread"-rule either.

Banning anyone for posting seems unnecessarily violent to me.

queeq out

Ratcat
Well, it's a violent universe out there. smile

Anyway, I saw a picture on Jimmy Smits with a goatee yesterday, do you think he grew it to play Bail Organa?

queeq
I hope so. A Beard bears great relevance to Star Wars. I belong to a cult that believes the Beard in Star Wars represents utter goodness. I am a Beardi knight like my father before me.
Bail is known to be good, so a beard (or other form of facial hair) is a necessity for his character to be true to his nature.

queeq out

Darth Daft
Christopher Lee will probably have a beard I reckon. That would suit him if he is to play a Jedi (if that is indeed what he is going to play).

queeq
Yes, Lee has a beard. Or a big goatee to say the least. I've seen spy pics of him in costume.

So, we could be pushing this thread a little harder if we want to reach 150. smile

queeq out
