What?

In ESB when Luke is freezing, Obi Wan appears and tells Luke to go to see Yoda. He says something to the effect that Yoda was his master...What? Is there an explination here?

Ushgarak
"Master Yoda taught me to be mindful of the future..."

Yoda was Obi-Wan's teacher before Qui-Gon.

VengeanceGOD
As Yoda teaches all of the younglings, he would have had contact with Obi-Wan, and taught him much. Obi-Wan conveniently leaves out Qui-Gon because, well, Qui-Gon wasn't invented yet.

xeous
Alright, thanks...It was bothering me.

xeous
Also, how does Vader just block the shots that Han Solo fires at him in the cloud city?

Darth Bandon
Yoda was Obi-Wans Academy trainer, Qui-Gon was his Field Training Jedi. Watch the show 10-8 to get an idea of what I mean. As for Vader, his hand is fake which is why the blaster shots don't hurt him.

xeous
Then why when Luke and Vader are fighting later, he (Vader) cries out when Luke touches his arm with a saber?

VengeanceGOD
No, that's not it. Vader is using a Jedi technique that was mastered by Corran Horn in the book I, Jedi. He actually absorbs the energy of the blaster bolts and uses that energy to power his telekinesis, sucking the blaster from Han's hand.

yerssot
yeah, the hitting/absorbing thing is not that sure and all

VengeanceGOD
What? I didn't understand that.

mephistodesigns
its a polite term for not canon. yerrsot's one of the official enforcers of it remember? wink
But it is, even without an "official" explanation, obvious that he's using the force. But, honestly, it could just be the armored suit. but i think its the force.

Dirty Vader
its not canon but yoda in AOTC absorbs Dooku's lightning and launches it back at him, and then at the end of their little lightning skirmish just before Dooku says "It is clear that this battle cannot be decided by our knowledge of the force but with our skills with a lightsaber.", Yoda absorbs all the lightning energy into his hand.
Vader must of done the same thing only with laser bolts.

VengeanceGOD
oooh...Good point Dirty!

yerssot
it's not canon?? dude, you can see the second time Dooku tries it that Yoda gets it in his little hand, closes it and it's all gone! that's absorbing

VengeanceGOD
So there we have a canon example of force absorbtion power in action. Yet another EU idea successfully makes the crossover. smile

yerssot
er ... no
I for example believe that Vader uses absorption when Han shoots at him in ESB, way before any EU was made

Julie
I don't think much about it being absorbtion or not....though it might...or he could have just let it smoke in his not so real palm

mephistodesigns
maybe he turned off pain receptors in it. but i still like the absorbtion idea. And Vengeance, y'know, a lot of the EU is based on things we've seen on film and notes and concepts (be it art dept. or lucas) so its really hard to judge what's straigt EU and what came from film sometimes.

VengeanceGOD
Yeah, that's true. But I'm pretty sure the absorbtion concept was developed in I, Jedi. No way to know for sure without asking Lucas though...

Julie
not that it's a big big debate topic...just something interesting

yerssot
if it hit him, it should at least have made a hole in his glove, no?

Baylin
It's more likely that he used the force to absorb it because otherwise I would have thought it would have melted his artificial hand.

mephistodesigns
true. Absorbtion it is then. Horray.
