one of the best shows ever. No question. I loved this show on comedy central and sci fi channel and just found out its on DVD. I have watched some clips of the show on http://www.budweiser.com/1 and forgot how funny the show was. If you have never seen mst3k check out these clips and see what you are missing!

I personally like the Sci-Fi Channel run best of all. It
was generally edgier.

Also, prefer Mike over Joel, by a bit.

this my all time favorite show...I thankfully taped allot of them,so I still have some of the classics...but they are getting worn out from over playing.

god bless rhino video for releasing plenty though...I wrote them and begged for more Japanese videos...the gang are always getting good zingers on them.

it's hard to pick a favorite episode...any sandy frank movie for sure.

it just came out on the 19th and my order is in, Prince of space with spring fever is one of my all time favored msted movie and short...I totally recommend it.

Didn't like"Squirm" at all though. Haha how forgettable squirm is! I would play no springs for my friends and promptly take it out and watch like time of the apes or something..I almost forgot thats the movie the short is originally with.

Though I am pretty sure (Id have to take a look,but I'm particularly lazy right now) the Rodeo Daredevils was already released with one of the earlier volumes...they really should have added Hired part 2 because they already released the first half and not that one

Now if only they'd re-release the movie on DVD.

What's funny is, the "This Island Earth" DVD was also pulled, and of course, it being one of my all time favorite movies, it too fetches a pretty penny.

Classic, man... omg they need to re-release that! I had taped it and one of my friends taped over it....the funny part was they taped over it with more mst3k! they thought it was blank and thought they were doing me a favor one Sunday morning by taping "the girl in gold boots" Grrrr! guess it's the thought that counts.

your question is a tuffie...I love both mike and joel...but mike wins for me..but even tuffer is picking pre or post sci-fi mike.

but I'll have to pick pre sci fi.though post sci fi has some of my all time favorites for sure,but the ones on comedy central always were exceptionally funny...

Yeah, I like Mike as well.

I think Joel was less "mean" or sarcastic than Mike, which may
now always be a good thing when making fun of crappy movies.
and also had a more fatherly relationship to the bots.

Mike was more like a buddy to them. That made their interactions
a bit more balanced and often fun. They were like three friends
screwing around, as opposed to two kids playing around until
Joel brought them in line.

That's how I see it.


But don't you think that Sci-Fi MST3K was generally better
written than the Comedy Central ones? They had more laughs
per movie, and generally would not let something stupid on
the screen go by without a comment.

Also, the jokes weren't as sarcastically obvious as in the
CC days.


Now I know this will sound very unpopular, but I actually
liked alot Pearl and Bobo and Observer. I found them to
be funny in their various adventures and interactions. Come
on Badkitty, you have to admit that Bobo's stupidity was
often funnier than TV Frank's, right?


I don't remember "Girls Town", but the others I know and
have. Can't say I liked "Atomic Brain" that much, but
"...Batwoman" was a great. Soooo goofy! With the retarded
assistant and the slightly confused story-line!

But "...Brain..." was a classic! Not just because it's Mike's
first, but the bad acting. Also, loved the really really really
sleazy feel to it. Like watching the intro to some underground
50's porn. Reminded me a bit of "Horrors of Spider Island" in
that respect ("Halllooooo, take us fiz yodouuu!", remember
that one?


Sandy Frank? The Gamera movies? Boy, those were classic
episodes. haven't seen them in nearly a decade though.

I remember the japanese movies were among the first
I watched when I first discovered the program back in
late '94 or sometime '95.

I think one of the Gamera movies may have been my
first.

They offered so much material to comment on! And it
was alwasy funny this Japanese obsession with cameras
on people staring. Always these long staring shots!


Probably for nostaligic reasons, but I've alwasy been
partial to the 80's films. "Alien from L.A." (back when
Kathy Ireland posters were on every boys bedroom
walls), "Hobgoblins", "City Limits", etc... as well as all
those Conan clones.

Do you agree with the general consensus, as I do as
well, that "Castle of Fu Manchu" was the worst movie
ever shown? I only watched it once back early in my
Mistying days, but have never forgotten its terribleness.

Was that the one where Servo's head exploded because
the movie was so bad?

I'd put the Coleman Francis movies close up there as
well. Simply intolerable to watch!

the 80's films are really great...it feels like their making fun of my past..living in that era I can't help but make fun of it as well. why did cathy ireland talk in that high squeaky voice any way? Zombie Nightmare was a favorite too because adam west is so easy to laugh at.

you know you hit a mstie I haven't seen...I never seen Castle of Fu Manchu! though Coleman Francis movies are pretty impossible even mstied...though I confess the Skydivers made me laugh allot!

for the worst movies ever for me were Monster a go go and actually worse than that was Space Travelers (it's called something else though it's by John Sturges)

I watched that and fell asleep,so I was like well I taped it cool...and everytime I watched it I fell asleep,I never made it through that movie once because it was so boring...there was long long periods of silence and joel would chime in "but it's gene hackman...he's good in anything" all I can say is "deep hurting"

you know what sucks though, besides the show ending, I really hated Diabolik,like monster a go go hate...I wish it wasn't the last movie to be shown on mst...or maybe I just hate it because it was the end..I know I haven't watched again after the first time I watched it

Yes! I remember "Space Traveller, because I remember thinking
how unusual it was to see big named stars on MST3K!

Ofcourse, I became even more surprised that these actors
starred in such a horrid movie. (Though I think there
was another movie also starring big Hollywood names,
having to do with a Mars landing? Or am I mixing things
up? I haven't watched many of these episodes since I saw
them a decade ago.)

Very hard to believe that Gene Hackman did that movie
juts a few years before "French Connection"!


Coleman Francis' "Red Zone Cube" was sufficatingly horrible!
That was one of those movies in which even the crew could
barely save it. Like his other movies, it was dark and depressing
and with horrible acting and dialogue, and a story-line that
made no sense.

I think this guy maybe surpassed Ed Wood as the worst film
maker ever!


I am quite surprised that you haven't seen "Castle of Fu
Manchu"? I guess you missed nothing. It's only worth seeing
because many (including some of the cast) call it their worst
movie ever, and because I believe it was during it that Servo's
head exploded because the movie was so bad.


I agree n "Diabolik". Even when I was watching that episose
(feeling terribly upset and depressed ofcourse), I kept on
thinking that they could have picked a better moive to end
with. It didn't offer as much cheese for the crew to lampoon
(though it was a bad movie). I never noticed!

Funny, it was only years later that I read that Diabolik was
one and the same Kalgon from my beloved "Space Mutiny"!
(As well as Sinbad from the pretty good "Golden Voyage of
Sinbad", which also starred the easy-on-the-eyes Caroline
Munro.)


To be fair though, it was probably a better final-movie than
"laserblast", which I didn't care too much for.


You and I obviously like the japanese and the 80's movies,
but what about those ultra-depressing Scandanavia epics?
"Sampooooo!". These always creeped me out with their
bad dubbing and morbidly reddish tint. Most I did not liek
that much.

I must have missed way more MST than I thought...laserblast??...I can't remember seeing that at all ...or maybe I just blot the worst movies from my memory banks.

they did a movie called Sampooo!? see I don't remember that either..what was that one about? is it like those super crappy Hercules movies or more sleezy like Girl in Gold Boots?...haha..I can only think of brain guy dancing around at the end of that one...so disturbing.

I just watched the dvd of Killer Shrews...for some reason I was confused and expected to see Hobgoblins..damn it was pretty terrible,which makes sense because according to joel it was made by the same director as the giant Gila monster..which was trash.

You probably just forgot "Laserblast", as it was the last episode of
the Comedy Central run.

"Sampo" was the name of that device/ingredient/spell thing from the
Finnish movie "The Day the Earth Froze". The word became quite
famous, and has been repeated a few times by the crew in later
episodes.
