TeCk-IcE
I just wanted to know how many VHS or DVD movies everybody got in their collection back home.
(That will be if you collect)

I collect VHS movies and I soon got 400.

anyone?

queeq
I haven't kept track of my total amount of titles for a while but it must be 700+ or something.

Thomas H

yerssot
I'm not going to count them, but I'll keep it on about +500...
only two DVD's though

Ratcat
Probably about 500+ movies on VHS and about 35 on DVD. I no longer by VHS and have startred collected DVD in the last 6 months.

ToMacco
Too many on VHS.

On DVD:

The Phantom Menace
Jaws
Terminator 2
Leaving Las Vegas
The Simpsons First Season
Cast Away
The Big Lebowski
The Godfather Trillogy

Too many VHS, about 30 DVD's

TeCk-IcE
Wow......let`s gather all the movies, and start a filmstore!!!

"Killermovies filmstore-------> over 5000 VHSmovies and some DVD`s.

(Thinking over it...... I would never sell my movies)

finti
Thinking off it a lot of you have the same films as well

TeCk-IcE
also true rolling on floor laughing

Machine
i have around 350 vhs movies and 42 dvds

Dim
I have 6 videos.. laughing out loud BUT I go to the movies alot.

queeq
I have between 30-40 DVD's.

And I'm probably the only here who has any movies from BEFORE 1990. big grin

yerssot
give me a few well-known movies from before 1990 then

queeq
Well, someone did mention Jaws....

There's great movies all over the place. Tons before 1990. Even from the time (yes, kids!) when they filmed in black and white for not particular artistic reasons.
And even, there were times when there was no sound and still they could make great films.

yerssot
let me rephrase my question:

Can you, queeq, give me some titles (from big movies) made before 1990?
_____________________
EDIT: I have the original Star Wars trilogy: 1977, 1980 and 1983

queeq
Big?

Well, I mentioned Jaws.

I can list you a few:

Birth of a Nation (1914)
Intolerance (1916)
Modern Times (30's)
City Lights (late 20's I think)
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Wizard of Oz (1939)
Citizen Kane (1941)
Rebel without a Cause (50's)
Giant (50's)
Ten Commandments
Ben Hur
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the RIver Kwai
Dr. Zhivago
Bullit
Yojimbo
The Seven Samurai
SW (!)
Indiana Jones

anayway, that's just a few. There's many many more

yerssot
then I have some movies from before the '90 too...

Ten Commandments
Ben Hur
Lawrence of Arabia
Bridge on the RIver Kwai
Dr. Zhivago

Never watched Lawrence of Arabia nor Doctor Zhivago
Ben Hur is good, but long, Ten Commandments was from the time they made me look! sad

Dim
There were movies before 1990???

queeq
THanks, Dim. I was waiting for that line. wink

Rather sad that it takes a mod to bring in the stale comments. big grin

Dim
Someone had to be the sucker who says it.

Thomas H

Thomas H

Thomas H
Some of the titles are in Norwegian.......this is what I call a kick ass collection!!!!

mah
did you write all that by hand????

yerssot
ok, someone need his pills again...
(after me that is)

Thomas H
Since I started to collect movies, I have written down all of them in a program on the computer!!!!

yerssot
I hoped that!

Thomas H
Why?

Gundark
I only have about 10 movies on VHS. No dvd's. About 100 cd's.

I keep everything in alphabetical order though. Hmmm....methinks Thomas H and I would get along well..... laughing out loud

queeq
Well, Thomas H., that was very..... extensive of you. But not quite what I had in mind. big grin

I'm not going to post my list. I'm way overdue with keeping track of it all.

LanceWindu
I only have about 50 VHS and 4 DVD's.

My aunt though has a whole room in her house devoted to her VHS collection. She has nearly every movie released in America. About 3000 of them. She has a notebook catagorizing them. It is really thick.

Dim
Hmmmmmmmm...sounds a bit obsessive.

Ratcat
Cool, I know a few people who have been collecting VHS since it was developed and have some enoumous collections, but 3000, phew!!!

My friend has a collection of Albums and singles on vinyl that must number in the 15,000. He's been collecting for nearly 25 years. He has a lot of rare and classic albums from the 70's and 80's. He is leaving the lot to his daughter as a legacy.

mechmoggy
I've still got all my old Spidey, Cpt America, Thor and other Marvel comics all stored and listed up too. Obsessive behavour that repels women though. embarrasment

Ratcat
I have a big old box full on Classic Star Wars comics from the late 70's, early 89's, unfortunately the quality of some of them isn't all that good. sad

mechmoggy
COOL!! smokin'

I still love Marvel but I can't afford to collect like I did when I was younger. In fact I don't know how I managed it before with only a paper-round to fuel my obsession.

Gundark
Actually mech, that doesn't bother me about men at all. I've a very organized person and I like that quality in other people. I keep a list of everything in the house that takes batteries and what size they take and how many. Then when I need them I don't have to bother digging the old ones out first to see what I need.

LanceWindu
I uesed to have an original old Superman comic. The price that was listed on the cover was 15 cents.

mechmoggy
Gundy, you sound like my kinda woman! Maybe I can interest you in my comic list one day and I can peruse your battery list, man what a party that would be. roll eyes (sarcastic) wink

Thomas H
what film is the oldest in your collection people??
Mine is The wizard from oz!!!!

Machine
i have a baseball, hockey, football, comic card collecton of over 100,000 and i dont collect poke'mon cards but i do collect magic i have about 500 of magic cards

queeq
I think mine is Von Stroheim's Greed. But there may be competitors.

Thomas H
never even heard about that one........what actors starrs in it, and how old is it?? smile

TeCk-IcE
My oldest movie is "Gold Rush" from 1925.

queeq
Good one!

"Greed" is from the 20s I think. No famous people in there I think. It's a dramatic four-hour film (Von Stroheim wanted it to be 7 hours!) about a couple and the wife's so greedy that they have a lot of money but they live in the most horrid conditions of poverty, just because she doesn't want to spend any money.

Thomas H
7 hours?? oh my God..is that possible!!?? eek!

Mujaffa
i've got 120 vhs and 30-40 dvds

queeq
I just got Cleopatar (among others), restored to the promotional 4-hour premiere version. But director Mankiewicz intended it to be six hours in total, two times 3 hours. They're still looking for the original footage to restore it.

So yes, that IS possible. Look at SW: that'll be one big saga of almost 13 hours.

THE-RAY
My Best Movie wold be Monty Python and the Holy Grail on bothe VHS and DVD.

I have 350 VHS and 100 DVDs

wicker_man
I have around 300 VHS format and around 100 DVD format.

My favourites (can be seen in my profile) and i own them all either on video or dvd (or both).
