Doom III

Tex
I know Doom III has been discussed in detail in several threads, but as far as I know it doesn't have a proper dedicated thread...if anyone finds one let me know and I'll merge...

I got a question: Everyone is going crazy updating their computer, video cards, memory etc to make sure that they will be able to run Doom III on their computer.

BUT...

Wont it be available on the X-Box too?
Isn't the X-Box pretty much a computer from 2000?
Old technology...

How will it be able to run Doom III?

Also, just to gloat, as we speak Doom 3 is being developed by Id just fifteen minutes from my house! stick out tongue stick out tongue stick out tongue

BackFire
haha, you should go take a tour of their studios, maybe you can get a peak at it.

Anyways, it will be available for the X-Box, but at a much later date, and the graphics won't be nearly as clean as it would be on a decent computer. Basically it will run by taking away alot of the strong graphical elements that will be available on a PC.

Alot of people have been misinformed about Doom III. People seem to think that it won't run on anything less then a 3000 dollar super computer. That isn't true. The minimum requirements for the game is a 1ghz CPU, which these days is nothing special. Most people have one at least that fast.

Of course, to run the game with the minimum requirements will force you to dumb down the very beautiful graphics that the game is already famous for, but again... You don't need an super computer for the game to look good. Basically if you have a middle of the line PC, you should be able to run the game looking pretty good. Not quite as good as the screenshots, but still perfectly acceptable.

Tex
Perfectly acceptable is not acceptable for me! schmolldivaschmoll

Now I just need to find a sugar daddy to upgrade my PC! shifty

...

Doom III's gonna be hella kewl! raver

BackFire
Yeah, it wasn't for me either, so I made a overhaul for xmas. I'll be able to run teh game wonderfully.

Tex
It's going to be kick ass, the graphics are amazing!

But have you seen the latest video clips of Resident Evil 4? eek!
It's 3rd person, full environmental interaction...should bring Doom III to shame - graphic's wise! eek!

BackFire
I dunno about that, the graphics in doom 3, for the pc at least, are much better then the RE4 pics I've seen. Of course, RE4 looks to be one hell of a game, no more zombies though, kinda wierd.

SaTsuJiN
people like PC controls better.. I know I'd hate to play doom 3 with a controller , ew....

also they are breaking the levels down into segments for xbox to decrease load times. as another performance measure the xbox version will have considerably lower polygon count , but will be made up for by adding textures.

and I dont think RE4 has the slightest chance to topple doom 3's graphical techniques..because they're state of the art (the bump mapping and shading techniques alone... #_# ).

Tex
Does it have a release date yet?

They've been working on it for years! eek!

BackFire
the release date as of now is in June, but I don't think that's very solid.

Tex
Probably Chirstmas then.

Those vultures want all the $$$ they can get their hands on!

BackFire
Yep, as do all video game companies.

LeAtHerRFace
Why would you want to get a FPS game on an XBOX, PS2 or GC anyway?. When you can play it on a PC with a much faster connection, graphics, and more online features. I just think its pointless to open up DOOM 3 on the XBOX. But, damn Im gonna get that game one the 1st day it comes out.

MasterWizard
Not to mention PC has mouselook, a must need for any FPS. I don't know how people can use the controller for aiming and shooting in fast paced games.

BackFire
Old news. The release date has been August 3rd for about 3 weeks now.

Lord_Andres
ya well it wasint offical back then, now it is

ragesRemorse
so what are the system requirements for the game?

BackFire
It's been official for some time as far as I knew.

Anyway, I don't even care about this game anymore. They took way to long on it and I'm not very excited anymore. The graphics aren't even that great anymore, and that's a shame because that's all the game has going for it.

KidRock
I feel the same way about HL2 as you do to DOOM3 BackFire. HL2 would have been an amazing game with amazing graphics and everything last year but now after Far Cry and Doom3 coming..I really dont see the excitement anymore.

113
i'm afraid this will happen with halo 2 also..i pray to god i'll still be as excited for it in november as i am now....woowoo!

BackFire
Well Halo 2's graphics were never really that big of a deal. Not like HL2 and Doom 3's were/are.

I'm a bit more excited about Half Life 2 then Doom 3. At least HL2 has more then graphics going for it.

moonwalker741
i have the doom 3 beta demo, very very fun game eek! , scary as hell in some parts, it only has 3 levels though, but its rele good, cant wait till it comes out

Robo-Chocobo
um you gys do remember the reason HL2 was gettting press, BESIDES the cool graphics engine. was THE PHYSICS engine. im pumped to see that in battle. you all can B**** and whine about how D3, or HL2 no longer is good, or some rant about the graphics, whatever, keep doing that while i blow up some aliens.

greyboy
and here we thought we meant something to you....I see how it is...

Linkalicious
never been a big Doom fan, but I'm going to get it just because i've heard so much damn hype about the graphics. If it isn't up to part, i'll most likely be skipping HL2.

SaTsuJiN
Im a fan of FPSs, So I'll most likely be getting both >.>

Linkalicious
as will I. it doesn't take much for me to like a FPS....so i'll probably be getting both.

KidRock
Halo 2 looks stupid..

Lord_Andres
Good news

Looks like people with a low end machine will be able to play doom3 and get a good gaming experience

http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy

dragonx
yeps its treu Doom 3 has arrived on the net and a whole bunch of peeps are already playing it never seen such huge chaos around 1 game on the net,but ofcourse as a good citizen even if i do have the copy i still will buy the game cause its definetly worth it i suggest ever1 doing the same support the gaming industry and BUY this game big grin

BackFire
Well, finally, after years of waiting, the game is out. I purchased it tonight and played it for a couple of hours. The environment is pure gold, it's the spookiest game I've played. The graphics are amazing, absolutely amazing. I can tell this game will be a hell of an experience. I'm glad to see they made some half decent A.I. which was supposed to be one of the big problems of the game.

Shadow_King
well i wont be able to play this game. i would just be playing the SS version.

ChickinMeat
Doom 3 is yet another item to put onto my purchase list. My computer runs the beta alright, so hopefully the real version will work a charm.

i think the reason its being released onto Xbox is because here going to be a Co-op mode, and i dont think the PC has that if im correct. Shame really, Co-op mode would be sweet.

Daedalus
My mate Tony has Doom 3.... I hate him.

Daedalus
On the other hand, I'm getting Chronicles of Riddick next week, its absolutely awesome.

MC Mike
I'd just like to say...

DOOM F*CKIN ROCKS!!

BackFire
I agree, the game is outstanding. One of the most amazing gaming experiences of my life. No other game has drawn me in on such a consistant level, actually making me forget that I'm playing a game.

SaTsuJiN
some doom 3 console command goodies :

COLLECTED DOOM 3 E3 ALPHA v0.02 INFORMATION

"> " = Console
seta = Edit DoomConfig.cfg

RUNNING DOOM 3 FIRST TIME

1. Delete the DoomConfig.cfg (don't worry the game builds a new one)
2. Run Doom.exe
3. Wait for the video
4. Hit the ~ (tilde) key to access the console, then type:

> map e3/intro - The Intro
> map e3/e3_1 - 1st map
> map e3/e3_2 - 2nd map
> map e3/e3_3 - 3rd map

Backup and open the mapfile (e3bathroom5.map) with notepad, then look
for: "call" "bathroom" and comment

bind F12 "give weapon_machinegun;give weapon_shotgun;give

Now you can brighten up your game experience a little Take note that
the flares don't act as real lights. If you toss them in a pitch black
area it'll stay pitch black, if an area is alredy touched by light, the
flares will bright it up and add greenish color values.

FLASHLIGHT

You can get a much better flashlight by editing the DoomConfig.cfg. Use
this instead of flashlight3.tga which, BTW, does not even exist:

seta g_flashlight_shader "lights/flashlight2"

Then use console and type "flashlight". What you get is some very
impressive lightning effects.

You can also edit the flashlight lag like this to make it more "precise":

seta g_flashlight_lag "1.0"

It's recommended to bind flasghlight to a key:

> bind f "flashlight"
--
DOOMRADIANT

Download and edit this file - "doom.qe4", and be sure to place it in
your DOOM III Path/base/scripts directory (you'll have to make it, no
doubt).

Run DOOM III normally. Set r_mode to something higher than 3 (preferably
4 - 800x600, or 5 - 1024x768), and type: editor at the console.

Running "Doom.exe" +editor doesn't appear to work on my machine, but
hey... maybe I'm just unlucky.

You may also need to download this file - radiant.ini and place it
straight in your DOOM III Path (y'know.. same place where doom.exe
resides) if it doesn't work.

Now... remember folks: BACK EVERYTHING UP. We're all new to this stuff,
so chances are we're gonna fumble like you wouldn't believe and do some
nasty things that may make DOOM not behave anymore. Expect to fail on a
grand scale, and be prepared for it.

Also... check out some tutorials and stuff on http://www.qeradiant.com/
or other fine mapping places.

You also need to remember to edit your "doom.qe4" file, and customize it
to your own DOOM III path - unless, like me, your copy resides in
DermGames\Doom_III like mine does.

Don't forget, folks.. there's also the sound editor (editSound) and the
light editor (editLight) to play around with, too.

First put these binds into your DoomConfig.cfg:

bind f1 "spawn monster_zombie_fat_ragdoll"
bind f2 "spawn monster_zombie_commando"
bind f3 "spawn monster_demon_hellknight"
bind f4 "spawn monster_demon_imp"
bind f5 "spawn monster_demon_pinky"
bind f6 "testlight"
bind f7 "poplight"
bind f8 "give weapon_shotgun"
bind f9 "give weapon_machinegun"
bind f10 "god"
bind f11 "give ammo"
bind f12 "screenshot"

Run Doom.exe, bring down console then type:

> devmap empty

You can use devmap with the e3 maps as well...

Alternatively you can replace "spawn" with "testmodel", to just test it.

> r_testmodelrotate 1 - Rotates model.

Dramatically increases performance in some systems:

--
BENCHMARKING

> timedemo activate_demo1.demo

Apparently benchmarking does not work correctly, so don't trust it so much.
--
seta s_cacheAlwaysLoad "1"

Fixes the sound in the intro for most of the way through.

seta s_cacheSize "32"

Bumps up the amount of cache memory from 16 to 32, it makes it all the
way through the intro with the correct sounds but timing might still be
wrong.
--
MAP ENDINGS

To fix the intro ending, open the map file maps/e3/intro.map in an
editor and search for the following lines:

"classname" "target_sessionCommand"
"name" "target_endLevel_1"
"origin" "-1834 -9312 64"
"command" "playdemo"

Alter the last line to
"command" "map e3/e3_1"

First map should start after the intro now.

To fix the map endings, open the map file maps/e3/e3_1.map in an editor
and search for:

"command" "disconnect".

Change "disconnect" to "map e3/e3_2" and so on.
--
> r_diffuse 1 - Enables diffuse mapping (Disable for speed, enable for
quality)
> g_showplayershadow 1 - Enables playershadow

To enable player shadow in 1st person mode you have to make sure you type:

> g_showplayershadow 1

IN 1st person mode (> pm_thirdperson 0).
--
For a list of all the commands in the console:

> cmdlist

If you first type:

> clear (to clear up the console)

then

> cmdlist

and after that

> condump commands.txt

then you will find the list in \doom_III\base

Same goes for cvarlist...

Also when you type the first letter/char (like for example s) of a
command in the console and hit the TAB key it will come up with all
commands that begin with that letter.

RECORDING DEMOS

Type the following:

> bind f5 recorddemo
> bind f6 stoprecording

These two binds will give you keys for starting and stopping a demo,
respectively. You can substitute in the keys you prefer, it doesn't
matter. In this case, when you want to start capturing the action in the
game, press F5. When you're done, press F6.

The demo files are stored in your Doom_III\base\demos folder. They will
be labelled incrementally, e.g.

Demo001.demo, demo002.demo, etc. To play back your demo within the game,
type playdemo demo001 (or whatever the demo filename happens to be).

However, to get your demo into a movie format, there's a few extra steps.

Making a demo into an AVI.

After you've got a good demo, type aviDemo (for example, aviDemo demo001).
This will play back your demo while taking a whole bunch of screenshots.
When it's done, exit the game and look in your
"Doom_III\base\demos\demoname" folder. Depending upon how long your demo
was, you could have anywhere from 100mb to 10 gigs of .tga files.

Download this program and run it:
http://www-courses.cs.uiuc.edu/~cs319/animate/pjbmp2avi/pjBmp2Avi.zip

>From the program's main screen, in the Directory field, type in the path
to your demo's screenshots folder. (The "Doom_III\base\demos\demoname" I
described above). A quicker way is to click the "..." button and just
browse to the directory.

Change the file option from BMP to TGA. You should then see a list of
all the screenshots appear in the

"Files" field.

Under "Output" options, type the path and name of the avi you wish to
create (e.g., "Cermmovies\doom3rocks.avi"wink

Leave the default Frame and Key Rates. Click the create button. A new
window will pop up, prompting you to select a video codec. I suggest you
use Divx 5.0.2. After you click OK, the program will compile your .tga
files together.

After the window closes, you're done! Go to the target directory you
specified, and watch your first Doom 3 movie =)

CUSTOM SETTINGS

Create a new text document and rename it to YourConfig.cfg. Copy and
paste the whole DoomConfig.cfg to YourConfig.cfg. Create a Doom.exe
shortcut. Edit the properties of that shortcut like this, for example:

\doom.exe exec YourConfig.cfg;map e3/e3_1

Doom 3 starts and executes your config and then loads the first playable
map after intro. The purpose of custom config is to avoid Doom 3 editing
the settings every time it starts.

MC Mike
That's... interesting. When I beat it I might see what that's all about. stick out tongue

Linkalicious
so far how do you guys like the game?

I'm going to get it when i get paid tomorrow, and i just wanted to know what anyone thinks so far.

And how's the good 'ole shotty?

MC Mike
The graphics are great, the interactivtiy is immense, the creatures are awesome... I put it on "Ultra Quality" so I have the best effects, I love it. smile

Linkalicious
does it get bogged down with lag at all?

I have what i thought to be a very nice computer, but occasionally when i play Halo on PC it bogs down with a lot of lag. sad

Sometimes it's totally smoothe and nice, but other times, it's just lag-fest 2004. roll eyes (sarcastic)

But all the other stuff i run is fine...so maybe it's just Halo. I heard it sucks up resources like hell

BackFire
The graphics are great even if they aren't on the highest settings. I play on High settings and everything runs pretty smooth. There's the occasional slow down, but nothing comparable to Halo.

Halo is simply a poor port of the X-box version, they did a really bad job with that game, it's a hog. Doom actually runs alot smoother Link, so you shouldn't worry. You're computer is extremely good if I remember correctly, you should have no problems with Doom 3.

ChickinMeat
do you think these specs will run it?

AMD2800+ 2.8ghz
512mb RAM
Radeon 9800

MC Mike
You will be fine. smile I have a 3.01 Ghz and 1 GB RAM as well as a 9800 SE, and I can run it on the highest quality without lag. Yours will be great. big grin

BackFire
That's pretty much what my specs are, maybe I should try the highest quality. You never get any chopiness Mc?

MC Mike
Once. At that part where you open the door and that thing leaps out at you. (The first one that shoots fire) messed And that was very slight.

BackFire
Well, I'll give it a try.

SaTsuJiN
the use of audio terror is truely clever in d3.. they do things that noones tried in games before , in terms of achieving scare factor. That really puts a big smile on my face eek!

BackFire
It's the first game since Silent Hill that actually creeped me out while playing it in the dark. It actually is on a whole different level then SH though.

zinh
great game..very scary smile

Can't even fathom the scare factor in games 5 years from now.

*Cleans pants*

Linkalicious
yesss!!! i got paid today! I'm going to get this game as soon as i get home.

hey BF, any idea where I might be able to get a copy? I hear most places are sold out. sad

I'll probably check CompUSA and then Fry's first. I'm more in the Magnolia/Bushard area. So closer to FV.

SaTsuJiN
Yeah, I can bet... some of the faces of the demons are downright chilling

ChickinMeat
thats what i like to hear! thanks buddy!

MC Mike
No problem. big grin

WindDancer
Some clown has started a petition to stop all sales of Doom III. If you go to petitiononline.com look on the top ten petitions menu and you will see it. This is what the guy is saying:

Doom 3 will contain satanistic sympols witch our precious youth will see! Some claims that they look more forward to doom 3 than the second coming of Jesus Christ. The madness and violence must stop NOW! Don't let ID Software ever release doom 3 or it won't be long before we'll have a youth full of devil woreshippers and another columbine highschool situation

roll eyes (sarcastic) Some people really need to get a life.

MC Mike
hysterical

SnakeEyes
How much is Doom 3, 50 bucks i imagine, right?

MC Mike
yes Depending on where you buy it, between 45-55.

Linkalicious
i heard that it's retailing for $55 dollars which is $5 more than usual, and that games like Doom 3 and Half Life 2 are going to be the cause of this trend to bump games up an additional $5.

i think the only games that should cost that kind of money should have a lot of replay value. Most games are only good the 1st time through...

SaTsuJiN
lmao.. a columbine from doom3 ? thats damn retarded.... its because other parents dont have a god damned bit of sense to teach thier children to be kind to other children... thats what leads to columbine.. not electronic forms of entertainment... I've had many a disgusting run-in with highschool people who threw things at me and what not.. but I never ran off gunning them down. That comes from good parenting.. sorry parents but its all on you.. dont blame others wink

WindDancer
Some people just don't understand video games today. laughing

Gamestop and EB has it at $54.99 with tax. I got mine reserve! big grin

RaventheOnly
if anything doom 3 is venting those peoples anger in a game rather then lead in flesh stick out tongue

BackFire
That's not far from where I am.... Fry's may have it, but your first stops should be gamestops or Eb Games near you. That's where I got mine.

You may also want to try Best Buy or Target as a last resort. I don't know if places are sold out, I got the game before it was technically released, so not many people new about it. Good luck to you my friend.

SnakeEyes
Man i wanna get this game so bad. but i am broke

ragesRemorse
cani play this game on 1.2 ghz?

BackFire
No. 1.5GHZ is the minimum.

Linkalicious
i got it. it's so far managed to scare the living crap outta me. There's nothing in the world of video games to compare with using the flashlight in a dark corner to reveal a zombie....with THOSE eyes! OMG, this game is astonishing.

ragesRemorse
I am so fu*ckin pissed. I wish i couldplay this game. The only game that i was looking forward to i cannot play. Now i have to wait untill Late september, or early November untill i can play a decent game. I wont be playing video games for a few months i see. I hate all you lucky bastards that get to play doom 3

MC Mike
big grin Classic.

Linkalicious
serious...the guy that jumps at you when you open a door, and that big bull looking thing don't have anything on the workers that come out from every corner.

Like that one room near the Alpha Labs. You're in there, and it's all dark. And then suddenly you hear a creeking noise, and you switch to flashlights...only to reveal 4 of those suck ass zombies creeping up on you. The best is either the fat dude or the guy in the orange suit.

Classic is right!!!

MC Mike
laughing out loud You're right, the other creatures are strong but the zombies continue to creep me out.

Silver Stardust
I really, really need to get this game. Even though I KNOW it'll scare the hell out of me...I still want it. I played the first Doom when I was about 10 years old and it terrified me, yet still I loved it...Doom III is definitely on my "things to buy once I have some cash" list yes

Linkalicious
god damnit!!! i'm getting heavy laggage every time i go into a room with more than 3 bad guys in it.

I have a Nvidia GeForce 5600 FX Ultra and it's a 256 not 128. Is that a bad graphics card?

Actually, i had a friend look at my comp, and he thinks it might be a slow harddrive or something.

What do you think could cause lag for me. I got a 2.8 Ghz Pentium 4 with a gig of pc-3200 ddr ram.

Primitive Screwhead #1
I hear ya, Link. Tried to install it myself yesterday, and I have serious lag time AND no sound. It's been some time since a game came out that forced me to upgrade my PC. mad

Tptmanno1
Yea, If you wanna play Doom 3 and have ti look good, Your gonna need some cash.
And its supposed to look GOOD!

BackFire
A harddrive shouldn't have much to do with visual lag, that would simply slow the load times at teh beginning of each level.

It's probably your graphics card. Try turning the graphics settings down a tad and see if that helps, if it does, then it's your card. Everything else in your pc looks sweet. A new graphics card may be in your future.

Lord_Andres
yup like BF said it's probobly the graphic card, in many tests it dosent even beat the GeForce4 TI4600 128Mb Ram belive it or not, its true

Linkalicious
yah, well if i'm gonna go out of my way to get a new card. Which one should i get?

I was planning on getting another Gig of ram in the near future. And I want a good card. My friend wants to sell me an Ati All in Wonder 9700 Pro card for like 3 bills.

I don't really care, as long as my computer can run games without the horrible lag.

Lord_Andres
Well how much ram do you have? 3bills? how much is that? if you just want a good card that can run all the new games smooth and don't want do spend so much money on it, you should deffently consider the ATI 9700 Pro or 9800 pro

Linkalicious
yah, i was thinking about getting the 9800. $300 is 3 bills. But I don't know if I really need the All-in-wonder or whatever it is. That makes the card much more expensive...

and i have a gig of Ram right now. It's PC-3200 DDR

BackFire
If you're going to get a new card, pay an extra 100 dollars and get one of the new ones. The X800 pro or the Geforce 6800 are both top of the line right now.

Lord_Andres
yeah if you got the money you should deffently go for the high end cards. I wouldint even consider buying more ram in your case, 1GB is more then enough for the time bein

cal31
So is this game as big of a let down as I'm hearing? I've heard that the graphics are amazing but the gameplay gets repetitive.

BackFire
That's a valid complaint, I can see how people could see the game as repetitive. But the atmosphere is simply so strong and convincing that the game never gets old to me.

Linkalicious
Got a Ati 9800 Pro and things are great now. I have it on Ultra or whatever the highest setting is, and aside from very very slight lag while opening the door to reveal a new room....everything is smoothe and nice. Got the card for $209.95 NEW.

And I agree with BackFire on this. It is a valid complaint, but I get so sucked into the game itself that I don't notice. I just like going room to room, clearing everything out, then I start looking for foot lockers and storage units...stuff like that.

I'm finally about to enter Alpha Labs Sector 3. When Do I get a damn chain gun???? The only taste I've gotten of the nicer weapons (plasma rifle, chain gun, rocketlauncher) were from hosting my own multiplayer game for a few minutes to check them out.

GREAT game. One of the best I've ever played...repetitive or not.

Tptmanno1
You only get the good guns, halfway through the game.
Did you get the solecube yet?

Linkalicious
I'm not in Hell yet. I'm only just starting to enter Sector 3.

Yesterday I went home, loaded up the game, and hit some lag spikes that left me in a dark corner...then zombies started attacking me outta no where...and i couldn't even see them because of the horrible lag...it was too choppy.

So i went out and got a new card, installed it, and played for 3 minutes before my brother came home from work almost in tears because he had to "draft his fantasy team" for football. roll eyes (sarcastic)

Then I showed him how much smoother the game ran, so he spent 2 hours playing it. I only got the game for like 20 minutes yesterday. *sigh*

BackFire
You get the chaingun by following the whispering voices going "over here". It's in a hidden room. You can also get it from some enemies you'll encounter soon.

Linkalicious
I'm right at the part where you pick up the PDA information about the guy regretting ever letting Chin borrow his 8 sided dice.

Have I already passed the secret room? Because I'm soooo going back if I did...

BackFire
I don't remember, don't worry about it, you should be encountering zombies with chainguns shortly. It's not that great of a weapon, the ammo gets used up too quickly.

Linkalicious
yah, i just like chain guns in all the games i play. Especially the original Doom. I can't wait until i get the Chainsaw...

Then i'll be in Doom heaven..

BackFire
The Chainsaw is awesome.

MC Mike
Yea, ALWAYS take both routes if there are two, etc. My suggestion: Save, see what's down one, if it goes on and on, try the other way as well, maybe one of them is just a side step and back. Always check. Of course, at one point in Alpha, you have to make a BIG choice. So, I just saved there and I'm doing both ways. smile

Samas-adian
Ive finished it. Good game. Not the best though. The atmosphere is fantastic, the presentation is fantastic, and story telling (note i said telling) is fantastic. But, the combat is very repetative. No replay value at all. (after taking down the thousandth imp, next time through will be a piece of cake). The gameplay is fun for awhile, but once you get used to the presentation, you get kinda of bored.

None less, it was a great game. But from what ive seen from Half Life 2, it might destroy Doom 3.

Predator 89
Haf-life 2 will redeifine the FPS experience the only thing thretening HL2 is Halo 2.

BackFire
I don't see how Halo 2 is threatening HL2, it's on a completely different medium, and it isn't nearly as unique or innovative as what I've seen from HL2.

Halo 2 will probably be a great console shooter, but it will still have trouble topping the top PC shooters.

Linkalicious
most definitly. Halo's graphics won't be on par with HL2. And the game play/dynamics will be meager in comparison to HL2.

I don't know why, but I've always hated Half-Life. I can play all the other mods like CS, DoD, TF...but I just can't stand trying to beat that damn game as Gordon.

Today I'm supposed to get to play Counter-Strike: Source's beta release. de_dust will have like dust clouds, model shading, you can see reflections in people's scopes...and I hear the deagle looks wicked.

I can't wait to get home to try it out...

BackFire
How are you doing that, Link? Sounds cool.

Linkalicious
I tried it out yesterday. Ok, what happened was, I logged onto steam as usual when I start up my comp.

And then on the 16th some prompt came up asking if I wanted to take part in a beta test. they said i'd need to pre-load the game for the release on Wednesday night. I guess it's because I dished out $20 to get Counter-Strike: Condition Zero when it came out. That's part of the deal, all owners of CS:CZ get the option to download.

I'll write up my review in the CS: Source thread (counter-strike2)

Lord_Andres
Check it out, looks cool

http://cdoom.arqz.com/

check out the screenshots in the media section

BackFire
That's awesome, Andres!

Lord_Andres
I seriously hope that he'l do a good job in remodeling the monsters, would love to see all the good ol monsters back in their original design

BackFire
Yeah.

Samas-adian
Arn't they redesigned already in the new game?

SaTsuJiN
they are redesigned but they arent paying true homage to the old versions, they went mostly on the path of the artistic license and changed mostly, rather than keeping more old attributes. Thus these modders are paying homage to old doom by paying very strict attention to the old design schematics.

Lady_Shiara
Goog game, but not perfect. But I think, if you play this with the right atmosphere, you could sometimes be very schocked.
And it has an excellent graphik wink

Samas-adian
And keeping to the same colour scheme for the monsters

because it would just look plain silly.

Gory Game Lover
Doom 3 has some of the best graphics ever.

Gory Game Lover
Doom 3?Rock at it,beat the Cyberdemon.

MC Mike
So the **** what? no expression Unless you beat him on Nightmare, that's no acheivement. stick out tongue

BackFire
I beat it too, it's an easy game.

WindDancer
The Xbox version comes out tomorrow. And I think is worth buying it. I'm getting the CE with the extra features and the classic Doom game. It maynot be the same as the pc. But I think is still worth checking it out.

Smasandian
Game is a breeze.
The soulcube and the BFG make the last levels a breeze.

Thael
Just got the X-Box version, its damn awesome!! Not far off from the PC version from a graphical standpoint, no slowdown and the creepy atmosphere remains the same.

I'm happy! big grin

Smasandian
Yeah, but there's alot of places in the PC version that you probably dont see.
Doom 3 is creepy as shit but the gameplay is shit.

Darth Maverick
Got Doom 3 on friday and ive tried to play it as much as i can, i gotta say it is a great game, as everyone has said, the atmosphere is great and i actually think the gameplay is good, overall i would recommend it to anyone who likes a good FPS

btw its great to play it in the dark, really brings the game to life

Thorondor
For the xbox this game is horrible online lol.

Single player is pretty good though. Doom2 still owns it smile

dave123
playing doom 3 on xbox now.... very delicious flirt

Smasandian
It's awesome to play in the dark with a top surround sound system.
Its not like the gameplay overall sucks but it gets very old during the middle of the game.

SaTsuJiN
lol I just dont like that theres no headshots.. but its bearable.. I keep getting jumpy too -_-..

Smasandian
Yeah, but its not scary later on aside from a few instances because its so bloody predictable. When you walk in a room, you know somethings going to teleport in and it doesnt matter what monsters are it.
How many times do you need to get surpraised when you open a door and an Imp jumps at you?

cal31
It's good in the beginning, but starting after you get out of hell it is very boring and repetitive. Overall it was an ok game, but online for xbox is a shame. They shouldn't have even bothered putting that piece of crap on the disc. 4 player games for maps that size?

Smasandian
Exactly my point. Even before hell, it gets boring and reptitive.
It gets boring and on the PC, the online is horrible.

Machete_Guy
I'm abit late, i haven't payed much attention to doom 3's realise. Worth getting?

Smasandian
It is, if its cheaper than what I bought it for ($60). The graphics, atmosphere, sound and the general presentation are amazing. The little PDA's I loved (some didnt) and the monster looks amazing.
Unfortunatly, I found the gameplay kinda of boring. Dont get me wrong, its an amazing game for the first 5-7 hours of the game, but after that it got too stale for me and less frightening because of the repetitive gameplay.
But I would still pick it up just for the other amazing stuff.

Thats fine for me thumb up Its cheap now too so i wont have to many regrets if it gets abit tedious like you said. Might get it this afternoon.

JToTheP
I'll stick to the Ultimate DOOM trilogy on PC, I think Doom 3 is to "pretty" to hold the true heart of the gameplay, but my PC is also average, and I don't own a Box, but I don't care.

WindDancer
Can't really complain...the game is fun and is working pretty okay for a console. I like it and enjoying it.

Thael
I'd have to say, as good as this game looks, and as good as it is (for the first few hours) to does get repetitive.

But then again, Doom was never one for tactics and thinking, id have done what they set out to do from the start, create a balls-to-the-wall shooter thats tense as hell. thumbsup

Smasandian
True, but it doesnt mean it can have variety. There's a few set piece that are not the normal shooting. (IE. walking down the corridor, something pops out behind you.(and those set pieces (escort scientist with lamp) are few and far between. It would of been awesome of fight with some marines or something against the forces of evil.

ragesRemorse
The doom3 experience turns into the expereince you have when you play the original doom ten years after playing it for the first time. This game is more annoying than anything. If an enemy has a gun, you are taking damage, there is no way around that. You cannot strafe away from bullets like you can in every other Fps, it may not be real, but niether are sapce demons. If the enemy shoots rockets or fireballs then your usually not going to get hit at all.It is to easy to dodge fireballs and to hard to dodge bullets.

I remember playing this game and so many times i would die because an enemy would appear behind me with no kind of ambient warning. There are limited options as far as gameplay goes. The story is the same exact story from every other doom game. On the box version you cannot control the speed of your turning. It really is by all means a below average Fps. However, the atmosphere sells it and does make up for most of it's flaws as long as you can get through the repetition.

In most fps games, shooting the bad guys stays fun through out the game, or atleast doesnt become dreadfull. It is always close quarter combat, which become tedious and annoying, especially when you want to strafe. To it's credit, the game does play smooth for the most part, and the graphics are damn good, not geat, but good.

Smasandian
The graphics are more than just good. I dont know one game aside from the other big two (far cry, hl2) that had better graphics.

DracotheDragon
I agree with Tex's first statement, how would the Xbox be able to handle Doom 3, especially since it's got nowhere near the requirements Doom three needs for PC???? confused

Smasandian
Well, they obviously toned down the graphics.

DracotheDragon
stick out tongue

Lord_Andres
haha draco i play with full graphics all the shadows and stuff and it runs very smooth stick out tongue

DracotheDragon
I did too, for Xbox, and it ran very smooth, and the shadows, they were too damn realistic, and creepy..... but that's what made the game so fuc.king great!!! love

Lord_Andres
Ya, well I havint seen the game for xbox yet, only some screenshots, I guess I'l have to see it with my own eyes before I say anything, and to all those that don't like Doom3 that much and to those that love it, I just wanna say GET THE EXPANSION NOW! it's even better then doom3, you get more weapons and there are new monsters, and the levels are more open, go check it out!

DracotheDragon
sweet love
